The next bite on a jig.
So far for me, the little hooks have outfished the big hooks. I have seen similar findings in the early lucanus videos. I'll include big hooks with the aki's if anyone wants them, but the little ones just plain out fish better. I wished the big hooks worked better. Maybe August Jig of the month should be the aki?

150g Aki link - japanese hooks

The give and take with the japanese hooks is they don't last worth anything. But I would rather get bit and have to re-rig, than not get bit at all. I think with those snapper though, there are so many in the gulf, they are sort of like NC amberjacks, where they will eat anything and everything.

I'm going to use a 150g aki as a bait holder today and cast it into the surf. Should be productive. Last night I cast a green shiduki about 30 times and had one bite that didn't come tight.

My thinking on the small hooks with the Lucanus style jigs is that they are worked so slow that you let the fish hook themselves ala circles rather than setting the hook like a conventional jig. The hooks become part of the action of the jig as well.
Triggers, toothies and tail nippers do tear them things up quick though. You think there would be demand for a rerig package for the Aki?

Hard to say if there will be enough demand or not. So far, not yet.

That sounds great Jim...I have been wanting to pick up some of those from you the next time we fished together but it just hasn't happened yet. This wind is killing me...it hasn't given many weekend chances to fish all year.

Barefootin...those look great. I'm eagerly awaiting your report and test results.

Yes, they come standard on Aki's. I think you got some of those.
