Hi guys as Kaveman said a few of us have been having a crack at this form of fishing down here in New Zealand.

I was lucky enough a couple of weeks ago to land an 80kg striped Marlin on my Stella 20,000 using my Smiths WGJ spin jig rod. I have 450m of pe6 Diawa boat braid on my stella and pr,d a wind on trace of 200lb moimoi then crimped on a standard game swivel to a 4 m trace of 300lb.

We hooked the fish using a live Jack Mackerel as bait running 30m down off a downrigger.

fight time was 45min and the fish put on a great display so I know just how it feels in the picture at the start of this thread

I will try and put up a picture or two when I work out how to do that

Going to the three kings islands off the top of new Zealand next week where I will be targeting a marlin on a standard jig now I know the gear will stand up to the job
