    bf jig molds

hello, new here. was wondering how many of you fellas are making your own molds, especially for the smaller jigs. i am looking at giving it a go here shortly. i cant really afford to buy 3 grand worth of jigs, but i can spend the time and make them myself.

If you are looking to copy an existing jig or lead, or if you want to create your own, here is a good way to do it.

Curious if you actually tried that replic mold. I would wonder how well the vulc rubber would hold up to the hot lead being poured in.

If it was able to endure the heat, that would be well worth my $$$. I need to make a couple different things.

    Anyone use it before?

Find a jig you like and try making a mold of it using bondo thined out with resign. you need to make a two part mold. I made a mold of a 14oz. jig and the bondo has held up to 6-8 pours so far. The results came out better than i though. I have heard that there is a high temp. silicone that works great but it's pretty expensive. good luck and be safe with that hot lead.

I have been using silicone (red) to mold lead for a few years - you just need to let it cool after each pour. It will work great.

The Hilts Replica molds are nice because they are easy to work with and provide a solid frame for the silicone mold.

Crazycooter what type of silicone are you getting? I would like to know how it works out.I started making about 6 molds yesterday of my favorite tuna jigs with bondo.

Also has anybody ever tried to get a batch of jigs chromed or what ever they do to diamond jigs? I think it would be expensive untill you have enough jigs but i would love to get a finish like that on my jigs. I think i could get about 200-300 jigs together between me and my friends to send out.

You can plate your metal jigs pretty easily. Check out Caswell - http://www.caswellplating.com/kits/index.html

There are some videos to show you how. It is very easy...

    Thanks for the link clt.

It looks fairly easy but is a little expensive to start. It would probally be easier to find someone to do them for you, but i think i would have fun tring to do it myself.
