    BEST JIGGING BLANK/ROD

some guys like parabolic..some guys like faster action.
everyone has their own idea of "the best".
and that changes all the time.

does the best mean flashy metal on rod, that really has no function in catching.

does the best mean that someone in a different country uses and catches fish over there. so its the best here.

does the best blank mean made in america.
using imported guides/reelseat/grips for the rod.

does the best mean a "system" is needed to jig and catch fish.

does the best mean only limited availability.

does the best mean it weighs 3oz.

does the best mean it dosent ever break.

there are more "does the best mean"

    some blanks are heavy.
    some are light.
    some have duelhelix.
    some glass/graphite mix
some use different glass for the blanks.
    some work for bigger fish.
    some for small fish.

    Lami
    calstar
    seeker
    OTI
    JM
    OR
    Riley
    there are a TON more...

But,i am not sure the fish can tell what blank we use.

but some may say that if you use a 40$ Jig.
on a 500 dollar japanese rod you will catch more fish.

some say a good deckhand can catch fish with anything.

IMHO....the best is what my client needs.
    what works well,
    fits the budget.

i try to get a hold of all the blanks available to test and try.
so we can build what i think is the best..for my client.

and i am always looking for new stuff.
please contact me if you have some blanks to check out.

    a question..
WHY is it better than another.

i have found that comparing side by side with 7-8 blanks.
guys dont usually pick the "best". meaning (high dollar)

then they ask..why is the best blank/rod so much more money than the one i like.

this takes ALOT of time with a client

I am guilty as charged and I will admit it.

I'll be standing by and have some ideas, but want to hear what others think first.

This winter I plan on adding a 200gram, like Jim's. I think the main thing is to know what your primary use will be, no matter how much it costs no one rod / reel combo is best for everything.

My current set-up is a JM 350 and a Saltiga 40 which is a very nice set-up, but when I'm in shallow water, less than 100 feet and use small jigs, I don't get the loading / feel of the jig that I want. I love the set-up and have caught everything from 8 oz Black Sea Bass to 80 lbs AJ's on it. However, I feel a little lighter set-up will round me out nicely.

That is why I think my next set-up a 200 gram custom from Paul matched to a Saltiga 30T.

PaulI don't think it is a "best blank / rod"

FOr what is important is "cutting edge" It usually translate to $ though.

I like trying new stuff more than anything. There is always going to be opinions of weight, tapers, style, etc.

Either way its fun using different stuff, and I like to see whats new. On the other side there is what I call junk and the blanks were put together to be sold as a jigging rod, but they have poor tapers, flat spots, weak points, etc.

I say build what your customer wants and needs. SHow them the options and go from there.

In direct reply to your question, I would say go buy a off the rack reputable Japanese rod, these day they are way better than any of the custom made rods out there that i have seen.

In my opinion, premium Japanese production rods are way better in performance and finishing of most custom rods. Take a look at makers like Smith, Zenaq and Ocean Revolution. 10 years ago I will fully agree that a custom trolling rod is the one to have but thats history....
    "

what do you guys think? or do you think he used "that ive seen" as a qualifier so he could say this without completely lying through his teeth. because in my experience, custom rods have always been leaps and bounds better than store bought ones
randy is APS..i wou;dnt say he is lying.
i have know randy since he was in california selling Jiggng master in the US, that how i got to know them.
custom rods CAN be built alot better than production rods.
i have repaired the JAP rods.
    and some american rods..
their assembly can be improved upon.

I would leave those specific conversations there on deepjigging.

We can have an independent discussion without dragging others and what they say into it. I think it is distasteful.
