I have used them this summer, and believe me, the drag is not an issue. The west coast guys use them to catch the 200 lb. + yellowfins on the longrange outfits. I guess you have seen the ones I have for sale. I think you would be happy with them. Tough little reels. I did catch a couple of blue marlin on them this year. Nice fast retrieve. I have six for sale $180 each. I still have a few of the 6/1s on my boat that I am keeping for the sole purpose of jigging. I have caught blackfins and amberjacks with them.

I have an avet JX 4.6-1 i use for jigging. I have been catching tuna on it for 4 years now with out any problems. i can get over 30#'s of drag out of mine and still get free spool, but i have seen some that have a hard time getting over 20#'s. Yesterday i caught a nice 65+" bluefin with it with no problems. I would not buy an avet that is 6-1 ratio for jigging though, i don't like fishing with the higher ratio because it wears you out and works the jig too fast. The good things about the Jx is that it's light, simple, can take a lot of abuse and is fair inexpensive. What i don't like is that it will bind up on higher drags (16lbs+) making it harder to reel. Also the anit reverse will make a knocking sound when your jigging, but i have never seen an avet where the anti reverse went bad.
If you don't mind waiting and spending a little more avet is coming out with a new series of reels soon that have much more drag and no binding.

I definitely would recommend something in the 4:1 - 5:1 ratio for jigging. Like parker21 said, I think the 6:1 work the jig too fast for me and it takes more effort to fight the fish. I sent you a PM about a JX with the lower ratio.

Jigging by itself is a violent tiring sport, its very rough on the angler. We constantly look for the lightest and most advanced technology to make it easier on us so we can jig longer and catch more fish.
The gear ration factor is more about how hard it is working the jig
jigging with a lower speed of the 4.9 really pulls the jig up through the water with little effort on your part even with heavy jigs like 400g
however
Jigging with a high speed reel 6.0 really is hard compared to a lower speed reel. You feel like your pulling up 10 pound rather than 8 ounces
One day if you on the water try using a 20000 stella and then immediately use a 18000 stella and you will see what i mean
I recently put together a jigging combo, and went with the Avet HX. I used this combo for the 1st time last Friday, and jigged up some AJ's, and Bonita. I was very happy with the feel, and retrieve ratio(I think 4.6-1), but a little suprized that the reel did'nt have instant anti-reverse. The banging of the spool was a little un-nerving, but quickly remedied by keeping lite thumb pressue on the spool. I put the reel in low gear once just for the feel, but dont ever see where I would use low.
Thanks for all of the feedback guys, very helpful... I need to get me a nice conventional, something like a oc4000p and stella 20k but need to get me some scrilla first.

I would still get a saltiga or alutecnos for my conventional.
