    Assist Hooks

Tuesday we went out for some bottom bumping. Because of various reasons we have not been out in a couple of months. When I broke out our Butterfly jigs, I was surprised to find that most of the hooks were heavily rusted. Only a few were usable. Since it looks as if I'll need to replace most all of them, I thought that I'd try to make my own. I'd welcome any suggestions and help for supplies and tips on techniques.

    Thanks,
    John

you can get the assist cord. IM me if you need a source. I use Mustad Ultra point 8/0 non offset hooks and on aps you can get a rigging needle for making them.

If you don't have heavy Kevla cord, use heavy mono leader line with crimps. They are as good as Kevla and are much cheaper. You also can add plastic color tube over the mono lines.

The next bite on a jig.
There are a lot of videos on youtube on how to make them. I also carry both the heavy and the feather hooks on my site.

Mike, you don't need Kevla cord as Gamatatsu siwash hook with 350 lbs swievel is much stronger than Kevla cord. If you insist I'll bring Kevla cord.
