Assist hook set-up

Around 9 -21-09, one of our forum members did a great piece on do-it-yourself rigging assist hooks. Can anyone replay that for me? Thanks...Pete

this is how i do it - i use 500lb kevlar line that is in the pictures, i then glue the knot with gorilla glue(100% water proof . and then heat shrink the whole thing with red adhesive lined 10-12ga heat shrink.

i have not had one pull out yet - if you use a two turn snell its even better but its a lot harder to do.

to add more detail - my favorite hook so far is the Owner SJ-41 hooks starting in 9/0 and up. they are awesome.

i just got a shipment in from APS, little did i know itd be my last , of the Fishermen Siden Assist hooks and they look really decent - havnt rigged them yet. again, i would start with the 9/0.

buy yourself a good pair of split-ring pliers. the cheap ones(<$5) dont work for sh*t. buy the decent ones, its worth it!! mine were like $11 from Bass Pro.

best place i have found the heat shrink is ACE, they have 4ft sections - but its kind of expensive (~$12). So if you can find it in bulk elsewhere try, but at least you know ACE should have it.

oh, and be prepared to spend money on scissors - one spool of Kevlar cord and the brand new scissors i bought to tie assist hooks are now dull as water.

i use owner 120# split rings and 450# solid rings, they are the perfect sizes.

hope all this helps.

tight lines

Kil Song has the Kevlar cord, just fyi
