Got the call from David to go jigging on a 32' Carolina Classic yesterday. The forecast was more than I would take my boat 55 miles offshore in but I would go in a 32 with curtains!
Four man crew David, myself and two first time jiggers, Bird and the boat owner Vince. The ride out wasn't too bad as I picked a spot the was in the trough. A spot that holds African Pompano in the winter.
Upon arrival it was on from the first drop. All four came tight on the first drop. Vince caught his first fish on a jig which ended up being the biggest fish of the day a 60-70 lb jack.
The seas were bigger than the photos look and the drift was very fast. We weren't able to back troll or we would have taken a lot of water over the back. Given the conditions we had only two tangles all day.
Vince had the hot hand or "slow hand" catching three AP's on a blue/mack flatside. He did well with a slow jig wile fast jigging was a guaranteed AJ bite. I caught the last AP on the new pink hologram Katana.
We left at 1:30 in a building 5' sea and were back at 4pm in time to clean up and see a great football game.
Plenty of Aj's to go around.
Someone forgot to tell David we weren't live bait fishing for Sharks.
