    Anyone Pop With conventional reels?

any of you guys popping with conventionals? If so, what models are you throwing?

i have a stella 10k comin soon, but i have an 8' rod that would be absolutely perfect for popping, and im throwing around ideas what reel too toss on it. gona pick one up this friday (payday )

really wondering how the accurate boss mags throw with the accu cast control system..

any opinions on how the accurates throw would be more then welcome, as thats what im really after, i know how the trinis throw, but i really like lever drag.

Jesse this may not be the style of reel your looking for but I have installed magnets in my Avets and love it. I can throw them like a champ. I did my Avet SX, and JX. I fished the TN40N and love it but did not cast far with it, but it is castable. The accurates seem nice to cast too, but I only have the 665 which is larger than what you seem to be looking for. Like to hear what you choose to go with and results.

That sounds interesting. I don't mind spinners for casting, but I struggle a little fighting really big fish on spinners.

yeah ive installed magnets on several Avet Sx's for me and a few friends, for surf reels...i think furtherst ive ever hit on the field with my old SX and inferno , was slightly under 150yrd with 8oz pyramid. w/ my old grandwave 20 and inferno, ive hit 659ft with 150g tournament sinker on the field.

but, throwing 4oz poppers is just SLIGHTLY different and i know that...ill practice and be slingin them suckers far enough for my needs after this winter

thanks for all the comments guys.

me too jim, guess its just from the last 8-9 yrs, using basically nothing but conventional gear, but i really do like my 5'2 rod and saragossa 18k, its a beast, and i did like it last week fighting some big aj's, handled great, the drag on that reel definatly surprised me a couple times when i cranked the drag down and it had me leanin over the gunnel a little bit lol

but like u said, and i feel the same, im definately more comfortable with conv gear on big fish, but thats probably just like i said from using it for years and years...

it was kinda nice not levelwinding like a sumbeech all day
