Any want to offer NE Bluefin Jigging advice?

I started jigging last year after seeing many people catching more fish on jigs than chunking or trolling. I have a few setups for jerk and crank (still don't have this method down) and a few longer rods to yo-yo jig. I have not been very succesful in jigging this year. I am pretty sure I want to be ontop of the school. On my first trip I was right ontop of one they were down about 50', think I may have scared them off so then I kept it just on the outside and only had 1 fish.
2nd trip I saw which direction they were heading got right infront of them and cut the engines. I guess my question is more of a boat handling one and where to position the boat. It's easier when they are deep. Would you jig if you saw tuna breaking the surface? or throw poppers?

I think that goes for all fish, but I can recall Bluefins the year before last just 80' down and hitting the jigs on the fall. If I had an angler aboard that was willing to throw poppers I would, because I know tunas can go from 50' down to smashing the surface in the blink of an eye.

if they are on top you should throw lures at them such as stickbaits or poppers. take advantage of the feeding going on. Generally as a rule of thumb we only drop metal on them unless we are marking them deeper. Most of our luck jigging is when they are deep and holding on bait.
