Like the other fellow that will be jigging for a first time, I have a question on hooks?
1. Do you use one or two and why?
2. Length? Size of hook?
3. Does it depend on the jig size?

Welcome to the addiction. Hooks- I use one at a time. Less chance to foul hook the fish and tear it up. Less chance to hook other anglers when you get it in the boat and tear them up. (had it happen - see pic) Less chance to hook two fish at the same time and tear your gear up. Catching two fish at a time might be cool with taylor blues but not 80 lb amberjack.
Hook length and size. Generally length to half the jig length. Size I like the gap to be a little larger than the width of the jig. If the fish pins the hook against the jig it will still get hooked.

Steve is dead on with his suggestion, I normally use the biggest gap hooks I can find as they tend to really lock around the jawbone solid. I use Shout power assist hooks 7/0, shout Kudako 7/0 (same hook just not ore made). Kilsong sells Jigging Master hooks that are nice wide hook and Eastern Tackle has a nice pre made one as well
Always get a hook wider than the widest point of your jig
I appreciate the replys and will now take the "extra" hook off three of those jigs that have two on them. I'll look also on the width of the hooks. Really GOOD info, THANX!!
