The next bite on a jig.
Very pretty. Very, very pretty. The 500 is scary for me for general use, but it should be a big tuna killa.

ACTUALLY SEA, I SELL THESE AS A GREAT ALL AROUND ROD. BAILING DOLPHIN, CASTING TO ALBACORE, PITCHBAIT ROD, YOU NAME IT. ITS AWESOME BECAUSE IT STILL PUTS A NICE BEND ON A SMALL DOLPHIN BUT WILL HANDLE A BLUEFIN! IT CERTAINLY IS THE TUNA KILLA!!!!!!!!

    Very Nice build, good stuff.

Jim these 500g blanks are not what I consider a true 500g blank like a JM. Not bashing the blank, its nice but its not the power house you and I think when we hear 500g.

I could be wrong too, but it looks like the blank I'm thinking of.

    DD,
Thats size A on the trim. When I do underwrap, I use A or D.

Jig42na, I didn't take it as bashing, at all. I really like those blanks. For the money, they are awesome. Those that are just getting into jigging or those that want a solid rod, its good. Yes the JM blanks are top notch, but also much more $$.

    Don't you agree?
Plus, I have not gotten a single return on these blanks and from a building standpoint, reliability is key. From an angler standpoint, it also key to know that the rod that you use will stand up.
From a building point of view, I don't think there is a great benefit to a $300-$400 blank over a $100 blank.

    Just my opinion.

I totaly agree with you. These are great sticks for the price. I built 2 of the 500g blanks, and they get fished all the time. They caught everything from tuna to bluefish. Never had one break either. I was just trying to relate to Jim that it is more like a 350g rod bend, and not the same power as 500g.

Flatliner I built the 40-60 I believe it was and love that stick. I cut it down shorter to about 5' 4" and that thing has landed some impressive size fish. Weigh more than it was rated for. It did 100lb AJ and 80lb tuna. Pretty impresseve, it holds together.

Yep NEMO, thats Bill's. He wanted a modified Raven's theme so that is what I did. Im pretty confident that he is gonna love it!

jig42na, We are in agreement. They have a 600G that I feel is more comparable with the 500 from JM. All of this said, I still feel that the deciding factor in performance is the reel. Good gearing, drag and performance will decide if that fish is coming to the boat. With the high modulus of these blanks, the performance is guaranteed. These bad boys bend all the way to the reelseat so lifting will be dictated by the reel drag. Just my 2 cents.

Thats cool, I showed him those pitch bait rods you made me when he was out on my boat, knew it wouldn't take long to get him hooked on your rods.
