Fish... Grouper and Snapper

What jig is best for each and what style do I use to catch each.... so far I've caught AJ's, Kings, Black Sea Bass, Bar Jacks, and I think that's it... I want to catch a grouper and snapper,,, just don't know what type of jig and what style to catch these two fish... Can you help me out?

Thanks in Advance.....

Not that I'm a pro at grouper jigging, but I would recommend a shorter fat bodied jig that you can keep constant contact with the bottom.
Keep the jig working slowly and keep on bottom. Try using the Revolver Jig, Hooker Jig, Hammered Diamond with broad shape design, or anything similar.

Best Catch: The next bite on a jig.
There is no one best jig. Its different from day to day regarding the shape and color.

Just match your jig to the depth you are fishing. The flat side jigs have been my best grouper producers in Potroast color here in NC.

I also wouldn't hesitate to drop a fuchi for snappers tipped with a piece of meat.

Ive tried a lot of different types of jigs over the summer and each one seems to have its day, but I must say you can't go wrong with the old faithful diamond jig. At least not on the snowy and yellow edge grouper. We had 11 on the day of these pics. Most on the diamond jig and some on the bottom rigs.

I would concur with Jim here. I've caught my biggest gag grouper on that jig. His sandflea in the same color is also a good one.

All jigs will elicit strikes from grouper if they are presented to the fish in the fish's comfort zone.

I find that jigs with the hook(s) on the bottom (diamond jigs, stingsilvers, mariah, crippled herring, braid, hopkins and the like) are a lot more productive when fished on the bottom. I believe that is simply because of hook placement rather than attracting the bite. Bottom fish always strike from the bottom.

Good luck,
SeaBiscuit

I am too cheap to use a treble on the bottom of jigs. Too easy to get hung up on the bottom that way.
