    Acid wrapped jigging stick???????

The concept seems sound. The look is like somebody was a Timothy Leary desciple wrapping a rod. Does anyone have experience using one? Does the rod twist off spline? Is there increased friction on the guides when the drag is screaming?

On the deep drop fighting a large AJ or Yellowtail is there a worthwhile advantage over a conventional wrapped rod. I have never had a rod want to twist in my hand fighting a fish.

I guess my main question would be is a Acid wrapped rod a fad or just ahead of the curve?????

You input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Mark

They are awesome, but you need to have it built by someone who understands the process and the blank and how they work together. You can't do the transition with 2 guides and expect it to stay off the blank. It takes 3 (or more) for the transition to look and work correctly.

I have a picture that I will try to find that is an awesome wrap. If you have one done, make sure the builder uses at least 2 more guides than they would on a normal wrap. Thats my experience from having and using the one I had.

A benefit I see with jigging is that you can use a conventional and the line doesn't tip wrap while jigging. I feel that is the biggest advantage of spinners. The guides are on the bottom, so if the line puddles on top of the rod for a second, it just slips off. With a conventional, its wraps around the guides. The acid eliminates this. I also believe this effect is what leads to tip breakage on some conventional jigging rods. The braid burn has caused a weak spot that fails under a load.

That is the major benefit I see in addition to the blank rolling over on a big fish, and you will see that if you go after the big AJ's.

you should have no problems with it.

I'm not trying to be mean. Many rods will do that including my favorite $99 Daiwa, that I wouldn't trade for anything.

    absoultly they do.
that is the whole purpose of the acid wrap.

when using the rod and it is "tip flopping" it is not good for the blank.
there is twist and torque in the blank.
the acid takes all that out.

Acid is the way for overhead jig rods. The rod loads up nice and tip wraps are a thing of the past(if you have a fast and frantic style.)

I've nailed some pretty solid Yellowtail to 80lb with my 250g acid and I know many others down here have had similar experience.
