Reason being is mass produced rods are just that, they do not take the time to properly spine the blank, and properly place the guides. That's it in a nut shell,,they grad the blank and throw it together, using basic garbage from top to bottom. Also I read about the Mako that twisted a guys rod on here and he was worried about line chaffe from sides of roller guides. Well for one thing he should be worried about the line getting cut from where the actual roller meets the frame. The rollers used on cheap rods, will surely let this happen. You have to use the best in components if you dont want issues.
I use Winthrop for the reel monsters, there is not a better roller guide on the market, period.
Those are beautiful rods, you should post more photos, great work.Kevin Bogan

    Kevin,
I am Bobby Hankin's son-in-law. If you want, I will stop by the shop and chat. Spine is important, but it does not beat science.

Phat Tuna, THe question posed is to give the opportunity for those to express views on the topic. I've been in the rod business for about thirty years. Bob's Father was one of my best friends, I remember hin well. They are both great guys. I miss Sr. allot. Kevin
