80# JB Hollow Stronger than 100# JB Hollow!

I've been meaning to check the ABS (actual breaking strength) of JB 80# and JB 100#. Tonight, prompted by another post. I measured them to the break point.

If you look at the data on how much of each will fit on a given reel, it is always possible to put more 100# JB hollow on the spool (than JB 80). This led me to the idea that the 80# is stronger than the 100#.

    Here is the data:

JB 80#: greater than 155 lbs. ABS (I ran out of weights before the line broke)

    JB 100#: 133 lbs. ABS

Due to the fact that more 100# fits on a spool, it should not be a surprise that the 80# is stronger.

    I had a suspission... 16 strand(80lb) v 12 strand(100lb, which is why more fits on the spool).

That's why I was so excited about, and don't freak out at me guys, but PowerPro's new Ace 16 Strand line. 60lb 16 strand has me intrigued. As much as I hate, and I mean HATE, powerpro, I really want someone to do ABS on that stuff to see how it stands up.

Interesting.... I was always under the impression that 100Lb was 80lb with an extra strand in it...thus the reason it is more difficult to splice.

Yea, it was a cool learning process for me to learn all about braid. But 80lb is the only 16 strand(in the jb line), which is why its so easy to splice. Its counter intuitive, but the more strands the easier it is to splice. It's also why 80 is more expensive than everything else.

That's another reason I was excited about powerpros ace line, everything was 16 strand, so everything was easier to splice!

I hate that I'm talking nice about PowerPro
