Fantastic grouper! Congratulations! Did she eat a jig?
I believe that this is a broomtail grouper, a pacific species which looks a lot like our yellowedge and yellow mouth groupers except much BIGGER
Very cool.

Very nice FISH, Were you targeting them as you'd better be ready!!! That Broomtail wouldn't mind taking a frisky skipjack...

We were looking for some broomtails, but we really were not expecting anything of that size. Every time I look at the picture, it does look like it is photo shopped, but trust me I held it up long enough to get a smile in the picture and I set the beast back down.

Beautiful fish mkelly.
You Sir, caught a monster!!
On our way back in from Marlin fishing we stopped to get dinner. Here is a fish I caught in the Flamingo area and have not been able to ID accurately. Any suggestions? The tico mate called it a red grouper...I pulled this thing out of the rocks in 60' of water using a tiny snapper hook and 20lb spin gear(not the tld setup behind me in the pic), which makes it one of my best bottom fish catches ever. Jigging there has got to be insane, I am gearing up for that style of fishing now. I have a question for all you jigging guys, who do you charter in CR?[/SIZE]
