Mono filiment is typically a nylon based extrudate made by blending different molecular weight resins (nylons) to achieve desired results; ie strength (tensile) and elongation (stretch) then there other stuff like abrasion resistance which goes hand in hand typically with tensile as a function of hardness..bored yet...

Then there are fluorocarbon materials made form vastly different polymers and copolymers but are typically not based in anything but other fluorocarbons. They are expensive as chit in raw material form and can only be extruded in corrosion protected machines usually made from hastoloy or inconel...they are tough to extrude and the list of PIA stuff in the manufacture goes on and on....

So what's the deal...well the light refractive index of fluoropolymers is supposed to be much closer to water (don't know who's water they compared it to) but anytime you can get close to the same refractive index...your getting more invisible

Now there's some wham a jama bullchit out there that may be monofilifment then drawn through a wash of fluoropolymer like a cheap top coating and marketed as fluoro..kind of like a free lunch.

My thought is if your trolling in the wash then mono is fine. If your chunking or in a real clean water fussy bite deal then maybe spending some beans is worth it. If you like what you got then stick with it...confidence is a main ingredient in succcess....

One thing that real fluoropolymer is way cool at is it's bullet proff against UV so don't throw away old unused stuff. I pulled some 10year old 130 Seagar and it tested at 150...but like anythng else if yu have fought a large beast and have tested the bejesus out of it then defiently replace it

Most importantly have fun and cathchemup

** I hear ya Austin....Seaker threw down some heavy webster there!

But the thing about Capt Vin? He's the real deal.....not only does he catch the crap outa any pelagic that roams the canyons....but, also, in a previous life, and for many yrs, Vin was a sales exec in a fortune 50 company that mfg plastics, polymers, and I wish I could remember all the rest right now....

Sounds like we know what he's spooling his top shots with, eh?

It rocks. We prototyped it in cowtown before it hit the market and did very well on fat blacks and cows.

    Thumbs up

I use it for everything from flounder to 85# black drum and have never had a problem with it breaking. It ties smooth and holds its own.

I was fortunate enough to fish a sailfish tournment with one of the best teams in the world, and their choice was 40# pink flurocarbon.
