Hey everyone under my new policy of being forward and telling it like it is, tonight I spoke with a guy about advertising.

He told me I was way off base asking for money since these other sites were way bigger then us.

He told me the other site had hundreds more logged in users then us... I laughed as I knew what site he was speaking of.

Fact is Sportfishermen.com has run a honest site and sadly tonight I learned that alot of you are like cats.. Show you some thing shinny and you jump..

But if showing you shinny things means cheating you is it good buisness?

I mean one if you are buying ads shouldnt you know the facts?

I would any day of the week open my stats up to anyone.
I would no doubt never cheat. But if i did what this guy is doing i would show around 600 users online right now?


So should I cheat?

Sadly there are scripts on the market to randomly log on users. Also to keep them logged on for as long as you want.

The images below will show you what I mean...

Compare to clicking on our users. I believe our site logs users out of the system 1 minute after they close the page.

This site is doing it on about a 6 hour period.

Meaning once a user is gone they still show up...


Sadly I could install scripts to show insane views , insane members logged on. But for 6 years I have choosen to always show the truth..

I guess being honest dont always pay .....


I will offer this up and to be very honest. I will tell anyone the truth about any site. I could care less where you all spend your time and money. Of course I hope you hang here and we no doubt have added a ton of great staff this year.
We invest in this site and you all.
I dont see many doing this at all.

Not sure what the problem is. I keep myself logged in at all times. If I am not counted until I go to the site then there is NO scam. There could be a gazzillion members who have registered but the system is counting those on the site at any given moment. If the system counts every time person goes to the site, then your count could be off (I access the site multiple times a day), I guess the only way to be 100% accurate is to have the system monitor each time a person accesses the site a day and only count it once in a 24 hour period. Sounds like an awful lot of effort to get a count. Are the advertisers complaining? If it's not broke don't fix it. Just my $.02 m

Shows all those members as being online..


Its called session time out.
Meaning once you become inactive the system notes the time you became in active.

So most of those guys were inactive for 1 to 6 hours.

Your base settings for a session are 10 minutes.
If you then move you mouse or click on a page on the site it logs your session movement.

So basically that list shows 252 members actively online.

I clicked everyone of them and found only 5 had been on with in that hour.

But shows 252 online.

You guys just dont understand and that is fine.
Maybe some will.
But people look at that list to see how active a site is.

So its lieing.
Its an actually cheat program you can use for these message boards.

Our session time out is set to a total of 10 minutes.
If you log out or close the page you are removed sooner.

I tested that made a user name logged in, then closed the page and checked for hours and my user name was still logged in and active on the site.

How is that possible if i left?

If you completely understand what im saying them im just a idiot.
And should go ahead and change out logged in settings.
Witch would have showed around 3800 guests online and 600 members logged in.

Sadly we do it the correct way and the honest way.

This list is not counting clicks or counting how many people use the site. This is only showing how many people are on the site at that moment matter a fact


the section is called CURRENTLY ACTIVE USERS.
If you are not using the site , if you close the site are you active????

This site shows you active even if you left 6 hours ago..

Now what the point of showing active members is so you know you buddy came online and you can send him a private mail and he will see it.
But if he left 6 hours ago you still see him online.

Think about face book friends list.
If a member has the page open but is not active you show as inactive but on the page.
If your active you show in the active column.

Why does it bother me?
Becuase from what im learning people think if that list is huge then they think the site is huge.

But the above images are not honest.
100% changed normal settings in the software to make you look active when your not..

I think I understand what you are saying. The program is showing members still being active when they have left the site.
You are not lying the program is. I hope you are not as anal retentive as I can be. If you are there will be many long sleepless nights trying to find a correction

ITS NOT OUR SITE !
THOSE IMAGES ARE FROM ANOTHER SITE THAT A POTENTIAL ADVERTISER TOLD US THAT THAT SITE ABOVE WAS WAY BIGGER AND MORE ACTIVE THEN OUR SITE.

OUR SITE IS SET WITH NORMAL SETTINGS SHOWING A HONEST COUNT OF ACTIVE USERS.

The site i posted images of has installed a cheat into the software to show way way way way way more active people when actually over 90% had left hours before.

the number that stands out is 50,000 plus members.....
whether online for 1 minute or 4 hours......you have the means to contact a database of over 50,000 that utilize this great site.....

screw the envious competition.....operate the site as you see fit....those who BS dig their own grave.....

Sadly when I look at this industry and how un educated they are on the new media its scary.

Sadly for years I have been told hey John this other site has way more active users then you online at all times.

I go look at the site and see the same cheat installed.
Keeping them on long after they left so advertisers and consumers think the site is more active then it is.


I hope you are right that cheating will catch up to those who do it over time. But fact is im not going to sit here any more and not talk about it.

Fact is if you can slow down and read what im showing you all you may be buying into something that is not what it looks like.

Not saying you have to come here but beware of what you see.
