8" high on the shaft rounded/flat toes very short heels just enough to keep the foot from sliding through the stirrup, prefferably in a subdued color nothing gaudy and for god sake don't shine them, most popular brand Justin, and as far as that Stetson make sure it is a beaver wool Stetson not some el cheapo it needs to hold its form when your horse or some of the cow stock tramples it.One more thing if your buckle can't serve as a dinner plate your out of uniform
