Well Frank, I'll pretend I have the U.S. Government's responsibility on what to do ---- Guided missiles are aimed at the life boat locked and loaded.
Let's see, what would I do.---- the lifeboat is out of fuel so it ain't going anywhere, no risk of the captors getting away. A U.S. citizen's life depends on my actions.
I believe I would call in the best hostage experts in the entire world--- specialists in the FBI. I would like to think that I would act without haste when time is not critical.----
So, the advise from my experts in the field is to wait this thing out for a while, or take your advise and surely end the life of a fellow American in the name of a message to outlaws. The entire world knows that the US Navy can blowup a life boat----- We don't need a message there. So it seems the only message left under your idealology is that the USA will sacrifice it's own in order to capture criminals.----
Frank, the pirates aleady know that if they get caught by the US Navy they are in deep shit---- even a Somalian idiot knows that.
So in short, I'm positive I'd wait this thing out and of course, investigate all possible rescue options. This seems the only logical action and one in which the US has been consistant in for Aircraft highjackings, civil hostage situations, and military situations.

no tough guy crap here...it's a fact,you play the negotiating game and you're gonna have more of this crap...the super tanker that was hijacked,the shipping company paid $3,000,000.00 in ransom,that sure made this game worthwhile for these guys didn't it ??? guess what ??? here's another ship hijacked,capt held for ransom...did anyone think these guys were gonna go away after the 3 million$$$ pay day ??? pay 'em again,guess what ??? you got more...it's a tough situation,the us is lookin' pretty bad to the entire world,what's next ??? gotta draw a line...
