Worst Fishing Sportsmanship EVER

well, first off, i am leaving names out of this, as it involves a local charter captain, and i am NOT going to do anything to mess up his liveliehood, but i will say what i witnessed today while fishing.


ok so, around 8-9 this morn, me and a buddy ride out on the beach, get to the point of Emerald isle, catch some mullet and park the truck, grab the rods and walk to the coast guard channel to target some flatties.

well, about 10 minutes go by, and we see two boats coming up at literally the same time and they are setting up shop right on the other side of the channel from us. they are no way at all close to me and my bud on the bank, just wanna state their location.

well, an older gent and his wife anchor up in a little 19 ' seapro on the edge of a flat. they do this before the other boat is anchored, and the other boat is a good 25yrds up current

The other boat was a local charter that i recognized ,and he had a couple of clients aboard. well, he was up current of the older gent and his wife, and i guess he wanted that spot, and was not gonna let someone else fish it. so he throws anchor and trolling motor down, but instead of letting the anchor come tight, he dumps out more and more rope, until he is literally 10ft DEAD IN FRONT of the other boat....


well, both boats are tryin to fish the same spot, and this guy just thinks he can push the older gent out of the hole. well, about this time people start throwin over one another ,and tempers flare. charter guy grabs older gents line and starts yankin and cuts his line..


at this point, me and my bud were thinkin stuff was going to get really bad, well, boats at this time are about 2 ft from one another, and the actually bump....


well, the older gent has the cool head. he pulls up his anchor, turns the motor on, and motors about 30yrds down . well, charter guy gets a few fish, then goes to leave , well, he doesnt just leave..and let the situation go.

he goes UP CURRENT, backs up to the boat right to the older gents boat, and im thinkin at this time he is gonna tilt the motor and spray the older gent, but he didnt, he gets very close to the boat, and some more words exchange. charter guy finally leaves after dropping the F-bomb a handful of times needlessly. and in front of the mans wife to boot.




Why am i writing this up? well, this is about the worse fishing sportsmanship ive ever seen in my life. it really bugged the hell out of me. why are you going to go out of ur way just to be an ass? if someone is anchored in a spot, but u want to be there, tough. you dont own the water more then anyone else does. and to try and push someone out of the spot like what this person did is just stupid.


i guess i just dont understand the logic behind this "tactic". but it was definately an underhanded BS tactic.





sorry for the rant or vent, but i just had to post this up. it was rediculous.

whatta ashole not sure were your at but the earth is 70% water find anther spot people have done this to me several times either offshore or rockfishing in the bay first thing that i do cast a line towards your boat with a 8 ounce sinker and grab all your lines or get the balloon launcher out fill it with piss or my favorite is the auto matic paintball guns last but not least fire up the boat and i will see you at dock

That has happened to me a few times.A lot of that crap in the gulf.Had a guy anchor right next to me and yell at me for being on his spot.Pulled my anchor and had my mate cut his anchor line.Saw him at the dock and things got physical,he was arrested for assault and battery and I felt like an ass.

Talk about bush league, that's awful...bullying an old guy and his wife... if I were you I wouldn't feel bad about posting the name of the charter company- as the consumer, I want to choose what type of person my money is going to support.

this will be good done it a few times fill his or his mates boots with con food dye red or blue even both the color will last a week or so its funny as shit perma socks

That's a good point dude, you're probably right, and the high road is always the better one to take. I just would hate to give a guy like that my money when there are so many other good captains out there.

My personal opinion, he doesn't deserve the livelihood. Honestly, if he is a professional charter boat captain, he should have plenty of other spots to fish....and if I was his charter.......I'd demand to go back to the dock and he wouldn't get paid. Period.

Behaviour like that is completely unacceptable on land let alone on the water. Somebody could get killed and that somebody could have been a grandfather / grandmother.

Shout his name.....or not......its your call.

What is wrong with people anymore? We had something similar to this today at our campground. (3) Families decided 11a checkout time didn't apply to them. Security came at 12p and ask them to wrap it up and their reply "we thought we'd checkout later" and pretty much told security to f-off. Within moments, a hyped up teenager is trying to throw punches at Security. He was one punch away from getting stomped. Cops came but no arrests....WTF is wrong with people.
