    Wishing for a storm....

I'm sitting here reading through some post's with my mind half-assed thinking about the line of storms and what they have in store for us.

I'm thinking about Gustav and the flooding that the Gulf states are hit with, not but three years after Katrina, and any other "minimal" damage that the storm has done.

Now Hanna is bearing down on us after KILLING over 60 people already, not to mention the damage she has wreaked on the islands. Hell, even some members on this site have posted their losses from these storms.

What I don't get is how ANYONE can WISH FOR A STORM of any magnitude just so there is a wave to ride. I know there are alot of people who surf or are the surf industry that will get disturbed by this but,did you ever take into consideration not only the property loss, but the loss of lives and livelyhoods that these storms you wish for cause? I think everyone has the right to do whatever they enjoy doing, be it recreational or for a job, as long as it's legal and does not impose on others. If you want to be a "surfer dude" in whatever aspect and you reside in a place that has waves smaller than a kiddie pool, you should move somewhere that has what you need at NO COST to others.

I did it. I moved to the mountains after living on the coast of NJ for over thirty years. After six months I realized you can't make a living as a saltwater fisherman living in western North Carolina, so I moved back to the ocean.

I know all of you wishing for a good wave from these storms won't make them come to anyone, nor do you wish anyone harm(I hope), but PLEASE try and think of those who are negatively affected by these monsters. Not only the public, but also the public servants who have to risk their lives to keep US safe and occasionally go and rescue one of the surfers looking for that wave.

We had seats for about a minute and then the flight was canceled. That was before Hanna. Plus we have our dog to think about. We actually asked ourselves, what if it comes down to us or the dog?

    We can't leave him.

I'm sure a lot of people will think that's crazy but he's been with us from the beginning. He's our family.

Good Luck, I was in St. Thomas once and we got hit by a hurricane... nothing major but it still ruined the whole vacation. Also, I don't think I would be able to leave a pet behind either.

Your post is the one that put it over the edge for me. Here you were describing what you lost and were facing in the coming days/weeks and then there was the statement made by someone about bringing them on. How insensative can someone be?

I've been in your situation and I have lost EVERYTHING I owned to a hurricane except my microwave, I know it sucks.

May God be with you, and ALL in harms way, in the weeks to come and stay safe.

I was in college and at a soccer game one night right before a hurricane. One of my buddies from up north that had never experienced one said man I hope this thing hits us. I went ballistic on him. My family's business is right on the water and with storm surges it usually gets messed up pretty bad. After I got finished explaining to him what they do to the coast and the people living there and offering to take him there and we would ride it out at my house if he wanted to get up close and personal with one he changed his mind quick. That was right before hurricane Isabel where we ended up getting a couple of foot of water in our house that is a mile away from the water. Right on the water our business had about 5 foot in it. I tried to get that same guy to come help clean up but he didnt want to do that either.
