With a lot of information and advice from the good folks here at SFC I have
undertaken the rainy day winter project of trying to build some wind on leaders for shark. Now, Folks, I gotta be the first to admit, they aint all that pretty. But tug as hard as I can and I cant get them to slip. Picture of the serves follows this plea for testers. Left is 1st attempt, Middle 2nd, right 3rd.
OK heres the deal for all volunteer testers.
Must be a good swimmer.
Drink beer.
Be in overall good health.
FREE BEER and Thermal blanket for all volunteers.
In order to be sure these leaders will hold up under the pressure of a big shark a reel life stress test is required before I can trust them to the mighty jaws
I need volunteers to be tied to leader and jump in the canal and try to swim away.
When I get you to the dock I'll back off the drag and you can make a second run.
Then a third.
Then a fourth.
simple huh ?
Sound like Fun ?
This shold be a good test of how well they will hold up under pressure and the repeated run thru the roller guides.
If the leaders hold up going thru the roller guides and landing you at the dock I figure it will be time for a early season test on the reel thing.
Will also priovide a video for you to keep as a memento.
Oh,
One day when I was a youngster fishing with my dad for fluke he took the boat far from the fleet. i made the mistake of saying he should go over where eveyone else was. His response.
"Boy, ya wanna catch fish or fisherman". Limited out on big fluke that day.
Rather catch fish but at this time of year I'll take what I can get.
Thanks man. I can use a little encouragement here. having a little problem
makin it look good with the transition from the dacron to mono on the serve. It would look better if I doubled the wrap back up but also might stiffin it.
I figure with the money I save making my own I can buy an extra 1/2 gallon of gas and take my grandkids to the end of the canal and back
Also would highly recomend checking out Basil's site. I decided the quick grip jig I made was no longer cutting it and stepped up and purchased his wind on jig and the beiter serving tool. Now my serves look as good as his, well almost anyhow.
Thanks guys. Tsquared, Link does not work.
I'm gonna have to buy a tool. Basils looks sturdy.
No problem getting the wraps tight just aint as pretty as it should be.
Gonna rig one up and se if it passes thru the guides.
tie em to two trailer hitches and see if the line breaks or it slips.....i get nervous with mine too i put them on a cleat and pull as hard as i can if it slips i toss it if it doesnt i cross my fingers and put em in the water
