I don't know much about any of it...but Russia was in there for near 20 years and flunked, and we're there...what 9, and flunking...let's pack it up....put the guys along the Mexican border every 100 feet, and if we don't have enough, bring the 38,000 home from Korea.....

Whatever the actual reason Obama wants to stay in Afghanistan he's keeping it pretty close to the vest. It must be one of those geo-strategic reasons that the American public wouldn't warm up to so he makes stuff up, just like Bush did.

As far as I can tell, the reason we're staying in Afghanistan is to keep OBL out and protect Pakistan's nukes. Huh? OBL and the Al Queda are out but for 100 operatives. Pakistan's not about to let those nukes anywhere near loose. They're Pakistan's ace in the whole against India.

In point of fact, according to the cables, Pakistan's intelligence services are working against us and OBL is actively engaging personally in combat operations from Pakistan.

So, it sounds bogus to me. Obama's rationale about Afghanistan stinks as much as Bush's about WMDs and they hate us for our democracy (pure crap that). Whatever the truth is it's not been trumpeted. My guess is that if it were the American people wouldn't buy it and that's why no one seems to know what it is.

So, I can't agree more with the above quoted poster. Let's get the Heck out of there and do what Biden lobbied for, a quick reaction force dedicated to whacking AQ and OBL wheneve and if ever they appear again in Afghanistan.

Besides, this border thing is really getting out of hand with Mexico. Like I said in another post, the drug lords are battling one another and the Mexican government over turf.

What turf?

Drug shipment corridors into and through the U.S. Those corridors don't end a the Mexican border. The go all to the way to Chicago and elsewhere. That fighting is undoubtedly going to spill over the border, and, in some cases it already has.

Militarize the border, period.
