Stop staring at my Avatar.
Why....Why did you......
Somebody asked me over the weekend "Why did you start a charter business?"
Easy answer and it happened again not only once but twice last week. We had two trips this past week, Thursday and Friday. Both were father and son teams.
The first team was down on vacation for the week. No big deal you say. Dad lives in Colorado and son lives in Atlanta. Dad drives a camper to Atlanta, picks up son and drives to Emerald Isle, only to pick up one of our flyers and decide to spend a day with us out of Morehead City charter fishing!!! Pretty special I say. We didn't even get a sniff, but they had a great time.
Next day we had a team out of Mebane. Son's birthday!! Dad decides to give us a call and schedules a trip out to celebrate his grown son's birthday - with us. Pretty special. We didn't even get a sniff, but Dad hands Shane his card and says call me when they are biting better and we will go back after them.
What makes it even more special is that I got to be there both days and to take it over the top, my younger daughter did a ride along with us on the second trip.
Two days, three Dads getting to spend some very special time with their grown childern doing what they all like to do....Spending time with each other....
It isn't always about catching fish, sometimes (and usually most) it's about catching a few good memories.
My year ended good and I hope yours will be a good one coming up...

Awesome thread. You are absolutly right about spending time together. Life is way to short to let time go by. I lost my father 5 1/2 years ago and still cherish all the time we spent together on the water.

Spending time on the water with family and friends is what it is all about. I spend 30-40 days a year on the water with my dad and everyday is better then the last.

I almost don't like the word "charter" though thats what technically I do. I prefer , "makin memories"... To bring a kid into grown up status by way of his or her big fish, or to level the playing fields when that wife slams a slob, or to make an old man young again. Thats what the game is.
On three sepreate occasions at Chub. I had some old timers aboard. Then to sit at that little tiki hut sharing a sundown to have them look me square in the face with tears welling and say "Paul, ... You know, when we had that blue one on today, I was thirty years old again even if it was only for today..." Well that is way special.
I get the kids with that "glow" as they crank in most anything. I ramp it up for them. Not... "oh a neeter or cuda'... Holy cow! What a cool bonito! Look at those stripes" or "Wow! What a dandy barracuda! Look at them teeth..." I go to bed knowing full well they will carry those memories with them and hopefully share them with their kids.
The girls are special. No macho egos to get in the way. They heard their hubbies talk about big fish then they get to do it themselves... Those giggles and squals of delight are irreplacable!
