Some people ask me why I love the water, the beach, boats, and fishing.
Here is the explanation, two pictures from 1961, when I was about 2 years old....

Looks like your addiction is a deep seeded one. You were doomed from the start. Thanks for sharing, I'm sure these pics are ones you hold very close to you.
we have a few like that but not nearly enough. those you will cherish a long long time. Its in your blood.....and as the years go by it gets in your wallet![]()
Is that a real Model T on the beach---- wooden wheels and all? Always have heard that they were the first and only beach buggy's until 4wd came out. Cool pic.
No, I'm not that old.....that's a 1945 Dodge weapons carrier, model WC-52, purchased at auction from MCAS Cherry Point, NC in 1958 (the year before I was born), on the beach somewhere on Bogue Banks, NC. Dad had it until the county imposed restrictions on vehicles on the beach in the early 70's.
I remember when there were miles of beach on Bogue Banks that were only accessible by beach buggy. I remember driftwood fires on the beach and camping in the dunes, and (when I was older) riding on the front fender, and ultimately, driving that truck on the beach (first land vehicle I ever drove).
The boat was a 1961 16' MFG with a 40 hp Evinrude. Dad replaced it with a 70 17' Critchfield tri-hull with 85 (later 115) Evinrude, which was given to me in 1999. Two years ago I bought a 23 footer so that I could feel safer on the Chesapeake Bay.
Been driving boats since I was old enough to sit on my daddy's lap and hold the steering wheel. Now my almost 6 year old daughter drives our boat.
