    166 MPH

I've done 166mph in a 40 Skater with twin T53 turbines. But I think the fastest sporty out there is the Weaver boat named Wanted out of New Jersey. The link below is a similar boat to what I went on to do 166.

I know there are some "tributes" out there that are pretty fast.

ONLY 48.5 knots, i love it!!

    Just messing with you.

Its amazing how far the speed game has come in so short a time. I remember Neil Bechtel parading a picture (actually developed, from a non digital camera) of the GPS on the then newly constructed Biddy (57 island Boatworks- now called the Mass Transit) showing 40 knots. that was in the mid 90's, and everyone was outright amazed by the speed.

Just a handful of years prior, mid 30's was thought of as superfast and dangerous.

In 1983 my dad's 46 post with 671's was one of the fastest charter boats in OC.

    But I digress.

Fastest i have been on a boat was a 33 powerplay- somewhere in the vicinity of 90+

I wonder where it will all end??

I remember when 25 knots was a very acceptable cruise speed. Now you can't sell a boat the does that cruise. There's something about the gage reading 30 + kts that people need to see. I don't really see the speeds topping out yet. The material that builders use will continue to advance technically and the owners will continue to spend the money (hopefully). Bigger engines and lighter boat = faster speeds.

My question is would you buy a boat that cruises at 25-27 knots but the engines run for 8000 hours?
