WHERE'S THE BEST PLACE TO SELL FIREARMS?

Try to sell a few safe queens and need to know where success has been found in selling firearms. Tried the gun store route, but they should be locked up as criminals for what they offer. See some places on line, but unsure of the reputation or "safety" of the transactions.

If anyone has a suggestion, please let me know.

    an easy way

is gunbroker.com which is an auction site, so highest bid (above the reserve) is the winner. Each state has diff laws regarding selling, but for the most part its very easy. Contact your local gun store and ask what they charge for shipping with ffl transfer....you must make sure you ship to another ffl holder....they buyer can give you their local gun store address and info...they handle the transfer sale and tax..

another site for direct sale is gunsamerica.com not auction based...one price...

a while back, a member used to post on here some guns he wanted to sell and he had great results...maybe post what you have and the price....then all you need to due is worry about shipping to an ffl holder ie. a gun store in the buyers area..

    so, what you selling?

Thanks for the hints. I guess I don't quite understand the funds collection/transfer process. Seems shipping a gun off without funds collected is a bit risky??? or does it work another way? Not being a "store", I don't accept Visa, etc... so it's my ignorance on the process... any help with that?

I'll list them here in the classifieds, but they are:

Kimber Pro Raptor II Stainless Custom Shop .45
Smith & Wesson M&P PC15 with Trijicon Accupoint 2.5x10x56 optics & bipod (Match Grade AR15)
Smith & Wesson M&P AR15 16" barrel, adjustable stock, has the flat Picatanny top with the M4 Handle/sites

Let me know what you think.

Dont ship without receiving funds and confirming that the fund are in your account...I only use PAYPAL..I suggest you familiarize yourself with the process..you can send invoices and request payment from other people and its rather secure and safe..

another way I have sold a gun is I went to the local gun show (most allow people to bring in their own guns) and you can bring them to vendors...but they also look for money makers...so don't expect much more than your local gun stores low ball you...

Great collection by the way...PM the prices...I might make this easy on you..

The reason I suggested Gabriel is you can not sell a gun across state lines. They handle all that. Pretty sure that goes for all states. Basically if you and Kahi, for instance come to a price agreement, and you are in different states, and Kahi has the proper licensing, you both make your local gun shops aware of the sale, they likely charge a fee if you haven't frequented the shop buying ammo and such, Kahi pays his shop your agreed upon price plus whatever the transfer charge is, that gun shop forwards the payment to your local gun shop, you bring the gun in, they take it and give you the money, and send it to Kahi's shop where he picks it up....kind of complicated...easier to either sell it to your local shop, or have an auctioneer like Gabriel handle it all...they are reputable, have auctioned guns and a $50,000 Lionel train collection I once had....not sure the penalty for selling guns over state lines or to an unauthorized buyer...but I think they're steep....

I have never purchased a firearm with that much complication...I agreed upon the price, paid the guy and he shipped it to my local gun store where I paid the tax on it...legal....and auction house takes a cut too. Ive never heard of paying one store and they forward the money...any ffl holder can receive on your behalf..easiest way to verify this is go to your local gun shop and ask if they will handle shipping a gun to another ffl for you. The point is the gun has to end up in a the hands of an ffl before the buy gets it...

From the gunsamerica.com website legal section: "There are federal guidelines in place allowing for the sale of guns online. They stipulate that guns can only be transferred through a licensed dealer, a dealer holding a Federal Firearms License. So, if you want to buy a gun, you have to clear it through a local gun shop dealer and have them fax a copy of their license to the seller. With these kinds of guidelines, your local dealer will run the required background check on you and if everything checks out, follow through with the purchase. But, there are some ridiculous trends throughout the internet even though there are federal regulations in place to ensure fair and safe exchanges of firearms."

    Galazio,
Unless the transaction involves a truly high end gun, it is usually not worth the headache unlesss you have a good relationship with an FFL holder. Almost never will an FFL dealer accept shipment from anyone other than another FFL holder--- it's their A$$ on the line. So you must find an FFL in Tx to accept your gun for shipment out. Most charge $50 to $100 and many will not accept it to ship without proof of ownership on your end---- again, a big headache on your part.
Now the good news--- you live in Texas. I don't know the specifics for Tx, but most Southern states have an internet site called something like TexasGuntrader.com. Generally, it is fine to sell within your own state without an FFL (at least in the South anyway but check tx laws first). Do some googling, and there must to be a site for Tx like that mentioned above. Heck, some areas still allow firearms listed in newspaper classified or the local Trading post rag.

So I guess after you pay the charges, the end result is it's easier to let a local gunshop sell it on consignment or auction it....so let's see, the Raptor, about $1,300, minus dealer fees....I could give you three hndred for it....just kidding....
