80 Miles Offshore fighting a Giant Tuna

I was at the BB bouy East of Nantucket, we had just caught our first Giant of the fall season about 600lbs. Fished a couple more hours and headed for the barn. We pulled into stage harbor to drop the fish off with no idea what happened it was 4 PM.

Talk about coming back to a world that had changed. Stayed up all night watching the news. Never wanted to go back offshore more in my life, after that day. Away from it all and surrounded by the ocean and thats it. No war, no terrorism, no politics, just nature and some good friends doing what I love.

The fish finally shiped out to Japan 6 days later, we were lucky.

God bless the souls that were lost that day and rest in peace, and Never Forget 9/11.

I was driving from one business site to another listening to it on Howard Stern. Had to stop and listen due to the impact that it was having on that day. Not to mention the days, months and years to come.

I often wonder what "they" have in store for us next. It seems they lay and wait for that perfect time to strike. I hope our "government" is up to the task if it happens again.

I also realize this goes way beyond anything we want to, at times, understand in war. "They" are at war with us and "they" will do what "they" see fit to destroy us. Consequently, we have acted just the same towards our enemies. Just so happens it happened on our soil this time and we ain't used to that sort of thing. WWII and the two bombs we dropped on Japan to end the war in Asia comes to mind in our vengence. Do I want vengence from 9/11, damned right.

God Bless America, the men & women who fight for her, the men and women who have been killed & hurt for her and the innocent war victims from vengence enacted on AMERICAN soil!!!

I was a few miles off Fort Lauderdale on a charter. We had one customer on the boat and we were bailing small dolphin. My captain at the time had the radio on Howard Stern and thought it was a joke. My ex called me to tell me and as she was talking I went inside and turned the TV on. The customer and I were watching when the second plane hit. We stayed out a little while longer and watched all of the planes landing and none taking off. It was a sad day indeed.

Nine months of sobriety had me still on edge. I had to fill all my free time doing something... I was drifting the chapple hill reach of the bay looking for weakfish when I saw the column of smoke comming from the first tower... "Damn! Theres a fire at the wtc..."
I drifted and watched... Jet flew over me on an odd line heading up river toward it. "Funny that air control they'ld run him up that route..." I saw the second impact...

I reeled up and made tracks for the dock. I stopped at a local gas dock... "What the hell is going on up in the city?" The attendent's face was ashen and expressionless. "THey hit the towers..." No word of who they was...

I tied up and got in my car. The news was unfolding... I never even went back to throw out my bait, clean up, or clean the catch. I tried to call home but all cell lines were jammed. I just drove...

Four hours later I saw the commotion in Alexandria and their own plume of smoke rising... I stopped only for gas on the now empty roads home... Twelve hundred miles passed and I never uttered a word. My family would need me with them and I was on a mission.
I pulled in my driveway as first light was showing. I walked in to find my daughter awake at that strange hour. My missus was getting ready for worked. We hugged and tears flowed. School was cancelled and I stayed with my baby girl. All day she sat on my lap afraid to let go as we surfed the net for info and watched the replays of the hits over and over. We found a download for "God Bless the USA" and ran it as a loop though the next evening. Exhaustion set in she fell into a merciless sleep. My head spun and as she slept in my shared chair I penned the following...

    I woke that Tuesday morning
    Just another sunny day
Then the planes they slammed the towers
    And took our breath away
Silent we watched them as they fell
and carried our hearts straight into Hell
    But through it all
    We stand tall
    Cause we're the USA

You can take our tallest buildings
    And drop them into holes
You can poison our nations cities
But you can not reach our souls
Expainin it the best as I can
The misguided was of a man
    Talkin to my kid
    What they did
    But we're still the USA

    We're the worlds greatest country
    From coast to windswept coast
We value the words of freedom
    And cherish them the most
Out of many we are one
We cant quit til we are done
    We'll right the wrong
    Til evil's gone
    Cause we're the USA

I was in my classroom when a janitor came by and said a plane hit the world trade center. I said what like a single engine or something? He said he didn't know. I took my students to art and then went back to my room and turned on the TV, CNN flaming tower in the background the other still standing. Two of my colleagues came into the room and commented on the goings on. I was closest to the TV with my back to toward the door, watching and listening as were the other two teachers on my team. We then saw the second plane hit the other tower on TV and were shocked. I remember saying "we better be launching some F*cking Bombers right GDamn NOW!" and turned around and the Principal, Assistant principal, same janitor, and office secretary were standing there looking at me. I never heard them come into the room. My Principal said, "Excuse Me?" and again I said "I hope we are launching some F*cking bombers right now to get the bastards that did this." She just looked at me and I agree. We had a different relationship after that.

My mother has been asking to me to stop by all week so on 9/11 I stopped by as I entered her house that morning all I heard was the news. I walked into the living room to find my mother in tears in front of the TV.

My father was working in building 7 that day, my aunt and younger cousin were working in the trade center. Everything stood still as my mother was telling me that Dad was there.

It was slow and sounded muted out as my mind raced wondering about my father ... seconds turned into minutes, minutes turned into hours and then finally 7 hours after the tragedy started we finally heard his voice.

    He was safe

My aunt and my cousin who were in the trade center that day on different stories some how managed to find each other in the smoke filled streets, battered but still alive. Our joy was overshadowed by the sadness for the thousands of families that werent as fortunate as us.

I live 15 minutes from NYC and this day is forever etched into my memory as we lost several friends

You will all be greatly missed, loved and cherished. Your lives were all taken too prematurely may god bless you all.

I had just returned with a group of 14 people from Edmonton Canada. I had the group up there to hunt Geese and the NC part of the group hit RDU airport at 10:45 PM on the night before. I went to Oriental NC with "Down East Guide" to spend the night before I headed to Wilmington, NC the next day. Got up, turned on the TV and went to make coffee when it came on the news that a plane hit the WTC, as we were watching, the second one hit. George looked at me and said "the world has forever changed as we know it". No truer words could ever be said...

    May they rest in peace...
