    Where to send money?

one of the problems I see with our fight to fish is a monetary one! lawyers, court fees, phone bills, office space, even paper and stamps add up! So...i know the NRA has places to send money, where can fishermen send money? and wat is the fishermen's equivalent of the NRA? I know some people have taken on a lot of responsibility and have given up their own time and money (like John, jer, and the rest of the sfc crew, and many more from other businesses/organizations), but I feel as though they shouldn't have to bare this burden alone. On my boat this season there will be a 100% donation bin. At the end of the day, if one of us would like to throw in a penny, 10 bucks, or even a hundred bucks, who knows! but....where can I send this money? let me know ur thoughts, the good and the bad...tight lines everyone

I'm not sure where to send money. the sport is kinda split up. Some places we have same goals as commercials , other we do not. CCA and RFA don't totally agree with each other. Save our summer flounder have the right idea by funding research but is too narrow for a lot of us. we are still looking at the situation. the subject is not taboo. Your input is important.
Even though the ESPN article was exaggerated, we do have a problem.

I agree, the subject is not taboo at all. Here lies the problem. The fishing groups that are out there for the rec fishermen are so busy fighting among themselves that they dont stand on one common ground, in other words they are unorganized. Take for example the commercial sector. They have a few groups that lobby for them, they all support it because they have to whether they agree with it or not. They get things done. they have the money and a lot of it because they are not spread out with 10 different groups they have to join. When a lobbyist needs to bribe someone they have the money to do so. thats organized. We on the other hand cant stop fighting among ourselves with such petty nonsense that we cant get anything done. we all join the group that best fits us, unfortunately that spreads us out to thin and also spreads the money out as well. No money no fishie. What we need is a single group that will stand for the rec guy, people need to grin and bear it if they make a move that betters some one else's fishing but not yours. Down the road someday it just might work for you. At this point we may never see that. There are some good guys out there working hard for rec fishermen but sadly they are to busy fighting with other groups about who is better for the recs to really be a powerhouse like the commercial sector is. Just the March on D.C. was inlayed with massive fighting with most groups saying we wont support that, that brings a question to my mind, Why? why wouldnt they support it? is it because they didnt think of it first? Whatever the reason is, its stupid! Like I said to many groups not enough people.

I'm an active CCA member in MD. I represent CCA MD on the states Sport Fisheries Advisory Commission, and I am on the National Board of Directors. CCA is a grassroots organization that is mostly comprised of volunteers with a passion for what they are doing.

We are a group of conservation minded anglers w/ 1600+ members in MD, and over 100K nation wide.

In CCA I have found a group of folks that are working hard to make my state better, and has a strong lobby in DC. We also have members in 16 other states that are working hard for what is best for the fisheries and fishermen in each state.

CCA will have a large contingent of participants in the NOAA recreational fishing summit this weekend, and our folks in DC have been at this game for a long time.

For $25 a year you get a pretty darn good contingent of support, discounts at a few places, and 6 issues of our magazine, "Tide".

Check out the website and stop by the "Newsroom" to read about the current issues and what is going on.

Look into the various groups out there and find one that works for you, don't simply join because someone tells you to.

    Trust by verify.
