The hole in Eleuthera, Bahamas is in a park...a mile from the ocean.

Jay, that is not the hole I was thinking of. The inland Blue hole is in Rock Sound--- been there many times. The hole I was refering to is on the Caribean side up the Island a good ways.

That's definitely the Belize Bluehole. It's just offshore(east) of the Turneffe Atoll where I visted last May.

The bluehole is one of the "checklist" destinations for divers, and explains why the place we stayed is more of a diving resort than fishing. There is a ledge just below the max dive depth where you can see the old cave ceiling that existed before the hole opened up. Evidently, other than sharks, there isn't much sea life in the place.
