What every boater/fisherman fears

8" Exhaust Duct coming out of the port motor's riser (i guess you would call it that on a diesel) came disconnected. Its a PVC bellow that connects the molded fiberglass exhaust duct to the metal riser. Clamps were tight. My father and I looked at it afterwards and it was never installed right from the factory. They didn't slip the bellow onto the riser enough to have a good clamping surface.

Glad everything turned out OK, nothing worse than knowing the air side and water side are mixing.

A friend of mine has the same boat and has problems with the fiberglass exhaust cracking, found to be from a misalignment of the exhaust sections. If you have that problem, that could provide some force to work the elbow loose. Besides getting it on there good and clamping it down well, might want to check that all pieces are aligned so you don't go from a loose connection in one place to a crack in another.

Capt. Brian - Ironically, we were actually talking about an incident that happened to our neighbor years back, exact same situation. Freeze plug let go and mondo water came in.

Tuna Taxi - Thats EXACTLY the problem. I am going to place a call to albemarle regarding this issue. I had to actually pull the molded fiberlgass duct 2" out of another section (with 2" clamping surface remaining in that section STILL!!!!) to get enough room to have sufficient clamping surface onto exhaust riser.

Unacceptable in my opinion. Especially for a boat to be considered that high of caliber.

The boat is fine though, and now i have experienced every boater/fisherman's worst fear (next to fire on a boat).

Question: Do you know the difference between a fire in your house and a fire on your boat (at sea)?
