What do you want from an Off Shore Tackle Shop

We are opening our new Ocean City, MD storefront and we are reaching out to the fishing community to find out what they need and want from an Off Shore Shop. We would highly appreciate your input which we will use to design and stock our store. I would like to hear from Sharkers, Tuna trollers and chunkers, Tournament Marlin guys, Wahoo and all other types of offshore fishermen.

What do you want from an off shore tackle shop?

    Good fresh bait.

    Good Service and Honest information.

**********ALERT*********** This one is a biggie

A tackle shop that is open during fishermen's hours. 3:00am to 11:00PM. Not only for us offshore guys but I bet the bridge fishermen would appreciate that as well.

i'd ask yourself that very question and i'd bet you'd have everything that everyone else needs. go for that down home, you're family too, fresh coffee's in the pot next to the .......... attitude and you're headed for success! too many times when you walk into a shop, it feels like you're walking into an ice box! they could care less what you want or that you're even there. then i walk out with my money in hand never to return!!

i'd break your list of needs down into categories:

tuna fishing - and what it entails
shark fishing - and what it entails
bottom fishing - and what it entails
trolling - and what it entails
chunking - and what it entails
striper fishing - and what it entails

then go with what extras might people need?

clothing - (not limited to hats, gloves, boots, shirts, jackets, rain wear), cheap ice, coolers, food, drinks, film, disp cameras, sunscreen, and the list goes on.

and ask for comments from your customers about the shop. if they mention something that they would like to see in the shop, make sure you have at least one on hand in case they come back and need it. that's valuing their need and valuing them.

3am-11pm would be awesome! It would make the bridge guys and also us nightime inlet drifters happy IF the location was fairly convenient. fresh bait is always good and like Squid says there's more than offshore guys here year round.Your work is cut out for you though as there is some competition here and customer loyalty along with it.Friendly helpful service can often trump selection. Most times at early or late hours being open with the basics could be worth a million! Where is the store going to be? Good luck! See you down here soon.
