WHAT ABOUT THE F-N FLIES!!!!

Went out Sat. and was going to do a little tuna fishing and whale watching with the family.I have a 24 ft. wellcraft coastal with a hardtop and 3/4 canvas enclosure.I have my wife and three kids with me and we get underway.I keep the enclosure open cuz I cruise around 30 knots so I dont wanna ruin the canvas under that speed.I cruise through Hull Gut and start heading twords b-bouy when I hear on the radio that there are pods of mackeral out near 3 and a half fathom ledge so I head over there.Thats when we were attacked by at least 12 squadrons of knats!!!!!They were everywhere in our hair,mouth,backs,legs and I coudnt ditch them!!!The kids manned the washdown hose and got at least 300 confirmed kills but they must have predicted this avaisive manuver and sent in the rest of the flying corps!!!Well I had not even put a rod in the water and I put the white flag up and retreated..Screw it I wasnt going to let these monsters ruin my day so off to stellwagon bank we go.Its about a hour away from where Im at so I throttle down and get to about 32 knots and were back on track to go and watch the whales.I get to the bank around 1:00 pm seas are dead ass calm and there is about a 5 knot breeze I locate the whales and we head over to where they are and BAM my first bite!!!!Im hit with a stinger missle of some sort I yell MEDIC and my wife comforts me with a shot of Bud Lite and tends to my wound when my daughter gets accosted by the same flying insurgent that got me my purple heart!!!These flying walanders dont fight fair they have been briefed well from there upper command they just dont attack at will like the sqaudrons of knats we had encountered Nooooooooooo they go after the hard to reach spots on the human body like ankles.middle of the back region and also feet.Now I know all of you are going to say we had food,boat is not clean crumbs everywhere to attract these flying varmits but I can assure you my kids,wife,boat. were spotless yet with there high tech radar put them right on us.Not only do they hit you hard I swear the have more firepower than a Cobra Gunship!!!!Well I must say they got the best of us but I wasnt going to throw the towel in on this battle.So we fought them with all we had towels,newspaper,shirts and anything else we could find to make there life come to an end.We got about a half a dozen confirmed kills before we packed up and left.Picked one up before I laid him to rest and noticed that he was built like b-52 bomber.Big Black and ugly!!!!!!My question is how and what do you guys use to get rid of these Atlantic Terrors???????

Dude one time about 6 yrs ago were were out sharkfishing
and a huge swarm landed on the boat couldnt see the gelcoat
anymore and that buzzing noise we started up the boat so fast
you couldnt get the chum bucket in fast enough, it looked like a cartoon we even saw them coming at us start like a little black
puff of smoke then bam there ya go it took 5 miles and
wacking them with teeshirts to get them off the boat

horseflies and deerflies will do that at times. We just coat ourselves in off and they are not as bad. They will land on you but not stay long enough to bite. It is still aggravating.
