A coat under the oil skins.
The fancy fabrics like Goretex, etc. are fine for Golfers and even hunting, but get trashed while fishing with blood, scales, etc.

Heavy Duty Grundens on the outside and anything else you want to wear on the inside....Grundens break the wind, keeps the water and fish guts out... I prefer a layer of the new micro-fabric's next to the skin and then a nice warm sweater or Grunden's fleece over that......

Polypropelene Long Johns. Or Hot Chilly's.(something that wicks well). A must!

Very thin liner socks(again a wicking material) under a pair of Smart wool's or the like. Goretex waterproof socks and a pair of Carolina slippers.

Goose down long johns. Very often the layer that gets peeled and stowed while fishing as they will make you sweat-but are a must for the ride out and in especially when dark and freezing.

Thin dress pants or cacky pants. Jeans are to restrictive and heavy I think.

Thermz shirt over my long Johns. Sometimes long sleeve sometimes short sleeve sometimes both.

Grundens hooded sweatshirt with waterproof sleeves and belly. Neoprene cuffs on the sleeve a must. Wool neck gator comes on and off like a thermstat.

Grundens bibs and rain jacket on top.

THE KEY IS THIN LAYERS UNDER THE GRUNDENS. The Grundens not only keep the water out but they cut the wind to nothing. You will freeze your ass off in grundens without insulation underneath. That plastic seems to tranfer the cold but the wind blockage and water blockage is second to none and they are durable.

ALWAYS CARRY A DRY BAG WITH EXTRA SOCKS, GLOVES, FACE MASK, AND NECK GATOR. The rest can be squeezed near dry if it gets wet but it is hard to get cold if you keep the extremities warm.

I have a four square snowboard coat that goes along for the ride as backup. If I hadn't recieved it nearly free I would not have it. Expensive coat.

I can last with the best of them on those cold, dark, rough, Cow Killing winter nights. I fish an 18 CC almost always.

Hope this makes sense.

as said above - GRUNDENS!!!

thin layers under, and I like a fleece pullover also under my grundens. I bought the dark green bibs to get as much advantage from the sun as possible

Damn Holwachagot! How long does it take you to put all of that shit on

For me...white Grundens year round. Doesn't get that cold here. Thank goodness Sweatshirt under the Grundens, warm hat for the melon and ears and I'm good to go. Oh yeah, pair of fleece windstopper gloves for the ride.

Geoff must look like the Pillsbury doughboy will all that mess on. I duck hunt all winter and get by with a pair of cotton socks, insulated socks, long Johns and jeans under my bibs. A sweater and hooded sweatshirt is ussually all that is needed under the slicker for me------
Staying dry and keeping the wind off is 95% of heat retention.

That depends on how good the fish are biting.

Who you calling Doughboy? Smart ass redneck! I can't help it if I'm ugly and my momma dresses me funny.

Glenn was right, I do look a little fluffy.
