    OBLF,

Just a quick answer to your question. Speaking just for myself I'm pretty happy knowing that Sadam isn't around to toss nerve gas ladden missles at any one any more. He's a perfect example of an idiot making threats on a grand scale. It's a known fact, screw with the bull long enough, you're gonna get the horn's. I expect the historical experts you site think on the same lines you do. I would dare say, there are those out there that feel the same way I do.
Look I seriously wish that this World could just learn to get along with one another. For the vast, vast majority of people on this little dirty spinning ball would be tickled to death to be just left alone to take care of and love their family's. There just happen to be enough jerks in the World that won't let that happen. Yes I know you're gonna say we are one of them, save it. I can tell you pretty closely how all this is gonna play out. Of course I'm a Christian and believe the Bible, so maybe you wouldn't agree with my assesment. Pretty much done arguing with you on this one. Frank

seems to me...from every angle we hear how we "invaded" the middle east, that our agenda has always been oil, further that the USA has ALWAYS been the agressor..not true, in fact lets look at history and see where this all began....remember the line "From the shores of Tripoli" ring a bell? one can thank the Barbary Pirates for that one,as far back as when the USA was a fledgling country we have been preyed on by muslim countrys and even back then, the whole kill a non beliver..200 virgin thing was in effect...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Barbary_War

As for blaming the jews...really? might as well blame the blacks for slavery too...This country aint perfect..the Govt sucks , for sure..but America isnt its govt..its the People..Stand Proud or stand down.

You're a very cool dude, Marine, off the board. Just so folks know.

But citing what amounts to ancient history is hardly relevant to the existing conditions in the ME. What is relevant is U.S. behavior in that region since the Carter Doctrine was formulated during Carter's Presidency, such doctrine as has been SOP for every Administration including this one every since. If you don't know that doctrine it is, essentially, that the U.S. declared primacy over access to oil from the region and, in the case of Jimmy Carter, military force was declared openly to be "on the table" to assure U.S. access and primacy of the oil.

Is oil the primary reason the U.S. is involed in the ME? Does a wild bear **** in the woods?

And, we've been barbarous in enforcing that doctrine ever since its formulation. U.S. barbarism has taken many forms. From interfering in civil disputes to overthrowing governments to interfering in political and electoral processes to favoring dictators to unfairly siding with Israel to outright and unprovoked invasions. We have a very great deal to answer for there and 09/11 was just one of those paybacks, I'm afraid.

Blame the Israelis? Well, I'm not sure what you're referring to, Marine. I surely don't blame the Israelis for our behavior there. They're a pawn of ours, really. And, you can bet the rest of region knows that and blames us for the plight of the Palestinians. You don't have to belive me if you choose not to do so. But how about Gen. Patreas. He's said the same thing as has Mullen in the very recent past.

Our behavior was set with the Carter Doctrine and not necessarily with the establishment of Israel. So, in a way they're different issues.

But Israeli behavior has been equally as barbaric, perhaps even more so. The original sin was that they stole the land and killed and imprisoned the people so as to get away with it. Where'd you think Gaza came from? Ethnic cleansing, that's where.

And with the changing demographics in Israel (more liberal Jews leaving and being replaced with Asiatic Jews who lived behind the Iron Curtain) the Israeli right is growing more and more determined to complete the cleansing. We're merely complicit with it because the Jews control the Congress on every issue even remotely related to Israel.

I intensely dislike the behavior of the Zionist Jews in the ME because and only because we're blamed for it, remember 09/11. But honestly, I could care less whether the Jews and the Arabs fight it out.

My principle concern is that we're somehow always dragged into the middle of it. And, to add insult to injury American Jews don't serve in the U.S. armed forces and certainly not in combat arms in sufficient numbers relative to their representation in the U.S. population to make me feel like they're patriotic. Instead, I see them advocating that America takes on all their enemies and doing so with their control of Congress while they lay back and watch other American kids get killed instead of sending their own blood to do the fighting they advocate.

But then I have consistently said that those who advocate wars should fight them. That's the problem I have with most of the right-wingers on radio and television and most of those who listen to that doodoo at home. They don't fight the wars they advocated.

When you have skin in the game it makes a difference. Frank's fond of suggesting that there be new rules for eligibilty to become a lawmaker. OK, here's one Frank. If a Congressman or Senator has not served IN COMBAT ARMS DURING AN ACTIVE FOREIGN CONFLICT IN THE SERVICE OF THE U.S. HE CANNOT VOTE ANYTHING BUT "NAY" ON ANY PETITION IN EITHER HOUSE FOR WAR.

We'd do a lot less fighting, for sure.

Stand Proud or Stand Down, Indeed?

There are other common sayings like that, Marine, to which I object just as much as I do yours. They are like, "United We Stand, Divided We Fall". They might as well have said, "Comply or die". Or, "Submit or be Complicit".

All of them are intended to isolate and defame and blame all bad things on those who merely disagree with the government in times of crisis. So, those who say such things serve the purposes of the government, even when it's running amok.

Disagreeing with the government used to be a conservative value. Now, who knows. It's certainly not what I hear from conservatives anymore unless there's an Administration in the White House other than Republican.

I only hear that from the left even when the Administration is Democratic. Hmmmm....intersting. Who now advocates freedom more consistently? It's certainly not the right.

The mark of a man who rigidly adheres to his principles is that he as avidly advocates those principles with the same ferocity even when the current occupant of the White House is of his party. By this measure, today's conservatives are only lightly aligned to their principles.

ABSOLUTELY NO ONE TELLS ME TO SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The moment I hear someone foolishly do so I REALLY STAND UP AND DON'T SIT DOWN AT ALL FOR A VERY LONG TIME THEREAFTER.

Native Texan Says, Yes, I do Fish.

Went last weekend. Don't post much fishing reports on this board as this board seems oriented towards East Coast fishermen. I do post locally where it'd matter.

Oh, born and raised in Austin.

You see, if you're not born in the sticks around here, but rather, in the city and:

    1) learn to read and keep up the habit (not at all common in Texas) and

    2) get an education (absolutely not at all common in Texas) you don't believe all the pablum the government craps at you all the time.

Hey, that used to be a Republican value, wasn't it. Getting smart about the government's schenanigans. Seems Republicans got very dumbed down since the Bushs got into the act.

Reagan wouldn't recognize the modern Republican party nor would he have stood a chance of being elected in this country the way it is today. He was soulfull rather than soulless. He cared. And, he was a brave steward of the country who believed in governance. None of that in the current mob masquerading as a political party calling themselves the GOP.

Violations of the above two pre-requisites for intelligent thought precludes most Texans from thinking outside the God's Country and Bush Country box. Pity.
