    Wadering for fish?

I want real bad to catch a snook soon. I have yet to try a couple different fishing spots, but if I don't have luck I'm thinking about going after the snook next to the mangroves. I did walk on the river in the lowest tide but couldn't get next to the mangroves. I'm not looking to get hurt so I need to protect my feet and I'm wondering if a chest wader for that situation is too much.

My wife says people will laught at me. She thinks I care!

how deep does the water get jer?

if it is not high i would go with chest waders!!

it is hot down there so get yourself some light breathables.. i use proline breathables and they are half way decent in warmer weather.

if it is really hot you can always buy korkers.. they are boots that go on your feet and you can wear them into the water..

if you dont have to worry about anything coming up and nippin ya in the behind!! i would go with the korker boots and just get yourself a pair of swim shorts which i am sure you have and go at it!!!

and once again " lets see some of that action"

good luck jer.. you dont need it but i will wish it!!

I would think waders, either hip or chest, would be a good idea. They would give you some protection from jellyfish and skates/rays.

People here in NC use them all the time, in both the ocean and the back in the sounds.

Here are some images that represent both.

Thank you sportfishingusa and Sea Draggin!

I'm going to catch my first snook, and second, third... soon.

I have yet to play with my kites and catch fish with them also. The last time I took my kite fishing tackle with me to the beach the wind was blowing hard and driving me nuts so I did not even try to put up the kite.

    Jer-

Waders can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Where were you planning on getting some? online or locally? There are a number of brands out there and some of them aren't worth the trouble.

Let us know what you find before you buy them.

A pair of old sneakers and a pair of pants might suit you just as well too. What are the water temperatures?

Dave, the water is pretty warm so temperature is definetly not an issue.

My wife also wanted me to use some old sneakers. I think I would lose the sneakers to the mud, but I might try that before buying waders.

You cant go wrong with an old pair of sneakers and a beat up pair of jeans, i spend hundreds of hours in my local river wading around catching small mouth bass, its a great way to beat the heat and relaxing as hell......in my river you usually cant see bottom in more tha 3' of water....to keep from tripping or stepping off into a deep hole shuffle of drag your feet forward when you walk instead of taking large steps, i imagine the water clarity dow where your fishing is much better....but just a tip to help you out.
