    Vinyl or Wood Fence!!?

I am putting fence around my backyard and i am stuck between Wood and Vinyl/pvc

I can not decide between the two tone vinyl or the tongue and groove wood privacy with the 5x5 posts and new england caps.

The wood is 4300 and the vinyl is 5k.

Not much of a price difference but i think i might like the wood look alot better.

any pro and cons from anyone who has similar experiences with this type of fencing!?

Wood = Maintenance (stain/sealing), rotting shortens life if not maintained

Vinyl = low to No Maintenance, longer life

if maintenance isn't a priority to you, then it comes down to look... I prefer the wood look, but I don't like the time it takes to keep it looking good and preserving it. Takes away from fishin'

That is my exact problem.. The wood look with the tongue and groove privacy is truly amazing.. It makes vinyl look like a turd!! lol

But the vinyl will last but also needs to be power washed once or twice a year

power washing once a year, tops....you may get away with every other, not mention you can power washing in almost any type of weather... that's easier than treating wood. Which is 3 step process, cleaner, power washing, stain/sealer which is definitely an annual thing and must be done when the weather is above 60 and dry. If done correctly it take about 2-3 days as you have to wait until the wood dries completely between cleaning/power washing and applying stain (then hope it doesn't rain) Trust me, I'm with you... I like wood fencing MUCH more, but just be prepared for the up keep required for that look that you like so much... its the proverbial double edged sword. Hope this helps...

HMMMMMMMMMMMM... You got me doing some serious thinking now. lol

I like the wood grain vinyl but 6-7k is way to freaking much for fence.. lol

Maybe i could find a good South American to do my stain! I got a few of them that do work for me around the house cheap!!

But like they do say.. Vinyl is final!!!

I used pre-made 8ft panels made of western red cedar.
About $100 per panel, but you just stand em up and nail em to your posts....easy. Being cedar you don't have to stain and use preservative, and they still last a very long time.
The wood fades to a gray color over time , which many people seem to like.

I prefer the institutional look of razor wire . The only fence you'll ever need . Check your local building codes before installation ...................Go for the PVC

I debated between wood and vinyl, but when it came to privacy, that wasnt a concern for me, so I went with that new vinyl coated chainlink. It comes in black, green, or tan. We went with the black and it looked way better than I imagined it would. Was also alot cheaper than wood or vinyl. Again, if privacy isnt a concern, it might be worth looking into.

yeah privacy is a big issue with me.. Got to have the privacy, protections from neighbors un controllable pit bull that already ate one of my dogs.... and safety for my daughter who could be next on that pitbulls menu if i dont do something about him first!!

so needless to say.. the fence is going ground level.. i am digging 3 foot deep ditches around the entire yard and adding concrete wall in the ground under the fence.

shit should be like fort knox soon eough!!
