Video Solutions... Getting Closer
Ok my level of education has improved since my last series of Vid questions...
I went and did the learning curve thing on the camera Box told me to get. The 280 model. I got yacking with the camera dude at the store and got asking about pass through or analog to digital conversion camera. It would seem that they have a discontinued model, the 480 , that would convert my old stuff automatically. Thats a good thing. Then I went hunting and that model is in high demand and rare as can be... So I went digging further...
It seems that they make seperate gadgets that can convert analog to digital. Thats a good thing so I was reading reviews and some got bad marks and others got high marks... The one that consistently got the highest marks was one that uses firewire... Now I'm stumped again. What the hell is a fire wire and how would I know if my computer is compatable?
My plan is to go ahead and get the model that the Box recommends for most stuff going forward... I also plan on getting that coverter thing or at least one that I can just run through my usb port (I do know where that is) as I have three perfectly good Hi8 machines that I will now be able to use for high risk adventures...

Deep- As far as the firewire subject goes, I got alot of great info from the guys at Circuit City. They have firewires with many different ends to connect to your computer- I think one of the ends is a USB end.
As far as converting from analog to digital, I believe alot of the movie studio programs can convert it to digital for you. So as long as you have a wire that can connect your old camera's to your computer, you should be able to load it onto your computer and when you use the movie program for editing, it will save it as digital.
Hope this helps!

C...firewire was a mac lead to download video. Microsoft had serial ports(slow), later bill G said noway Hosea and incorporated firewire to windows platform at the same time incorporating usb and usb2. firewire is in theory, 400 megabit through port. usb2 is also in theory 400 megabit, but other devices also use the usb allotted 400 megabit through port, sort of sharing the bandwidth. so when you have many devices sharing the the 400 megabit through port your capture rate from the video camera takes a hit and could skip capturing a few frames......whew
other usb devices= cable modem
=mouse
=keyboard
=game controller
=printer
as long as the other devices are not in use you might just achieve that 400 megabit through port
keyboards can be switched to ps2 port with an adapter
mouse, same thing
Fire wire is a proprietary port that nothing else uses but your video camera

I have different connections in different places for the mouse and keyboard. I don't play games (Im always serious
) And I seldom turn on my printer (cheap thing
). I have two usb ports at the front of my machine that I hook my still camera to when I need to get important stuff out to the SFC world. So am I good to go or do I still suck?
