check for screen savers running in the back round, anti virus running the back round. You can have many peripherals connected to the usb hub, just do not use the shared bandwidth when capturing. Use keyboard, mouse as little as possible, printer software hogging the usb bandwidth, The usb2 is the fastest input. A fresh reboot is always nice as is a defragged drive. You can use windows movie maker to capture the vid. Just select the dazzle or what ever the hardware is called in the selection of input sources. Select dv-avi format. Turn of messenger and all other software using resources. The comp I use is Intel, 3.7 gig Pentium 4, 512 meg ram, 512K l2 cache on chip, 256 meg vid card, and letting windows select the virtual cache size. xp with sp2 update. Intel mother board. I do not know the chip set.....stupid me
It is a off the shelf computer, not a home built. Try movie maker. Microsoft does have a slick way of using the allowable ram when capturing video. Pinnacle is superior in editing, But I find Windows Movie Maker a bit better in capturing due to the memory swaps and hard drive writes....flat

pop the dvd in the tray and close. When it starts...stop it. Open my computer. Find the dvd drive. Right click and choose explore. Open the folders till U find the largest vob file. Right click and copy. Get to your desk top and right click paste. Right click the vob file and rename to deep c.mpeg or what ever.mpeg.
a vob file is the same as a mpeg file. Vob is a name all dvd software uses. So many software writers change the extension on movies all the time. The dvd industry need a standard to use. Hence VOB.
Pinnacle will import a mpeg file. edit the file to a movie. then export as wmv. Simple HUh !....it really is and it works. Thanks for all the sword instructions. This topic I can hep ya with....flat

Anthony's Ark is a blowboater

Ding - Ding - Ding - Got it.
Perhaps this is specific to Pinnacle Studio, but I had to select the VCR Input check box in the Capture Source tab. I'm sure this is specific to the analog input, and probably won't be necessary w/ the DV/1394 connectivity.
Shoe - give it a try.
The online help text from the capture window says this :
VCR input: This option, which is available with some analog capture devices, should be checked if your source device is a VCR. When the option activated, capture will be more tolerant of A/V synchronization problems in the incoming signal.
I figured VCR or Camcorder, what's the difference. Lucky guess, but I'll take it.
So once again, thanks for the help & pointers.
