    Vessel Safety Check

guys, i though that my boat was a-ok in terms of safety equipment and regulations. well i thought wrong... just had the vessel safety check from the coast guard auxiliary near my home port and failed . as it turns for a 27' vessel you need to have either one B-II fire extinguishers or two B-I. go figure. i was inspected last year and it was ok. but apparently things change and we are not notified. so ADVISE, GET YOUR RIGGS CHECKED OUT. its free and you will not get a ticket. you will get one if they inpect you out of the marina and you are not up to date

I get it done every year, just had mine 2 weekends ago. It's a good check, since it is easy to forget when your flares expire, and if a reg changes its better to hear it from the Aux than to hear it from the Man. Local power squadrons do the checks also, and I believe the Aux Flotillas and Power Squadrons receive some operating $$ from the CG based on the number of checks they do, so let them check you out.

A couple of years back, I started putting a strip of Duct Tape on the outside of my flare case with the expiration date (earliest date for mixed batches) to make sure I keep current.
