considering the risk...seems to me the shipping company's would hire armed escorts to travel along any ship going thru that region,if the insurance company's have to pay ransom,wouldn't it be cheaper to have 10 ex-SP or SEALS aboard to bring down any potential threat..

Actually the Mass Maritime kids are getting arms training now, these kids took it back without the training, but I second your motion, why not have armed security aboard, armed with real good stuff.

I have the hardest time realizing why this is even an issue. Mount a fucking .50 cal on the ship and when you see a skiff full of these fucks coming toward you, waste 'em! Cut the bastards in half. I would love to have the job of operating the gun.

Yea, a 50 cal would be better than those "sound" blasters the cruise ships have,i cant imagine the pirates would continue if every time they launched with intent to seize a ship they were met with a withering hail of 20MM from a Vulcan-Phalanx CIWS (Close-In Weapon System). That would be a crowd pleaser !!

Screw the smaller USN surface vessels currently patrolling there (although it's better than nothing). Send in the entire 5th fleet and wipe these pirates off the planet. I'm sure a USN/USMC air wing supplemented by a few high altitude Predator drones should be able to get rid of a bunch of these bastards.

I did read somewhere (probably here) that one congressman was considering introducing a bill that would allow letters of marquis and reprisal to be issued and let private citizens (i.e. Blackwater) go over there and kick ass and take names.
