Seems the only reason you need it is to renew your ticket or enter a marine terminal, I have presented mine for I.D. on more than one ocasion to both the C.G. and the State Marine patrol when stopped to be checked and was ask.............and I quote " what is this" we need to see another form of I.D. like your drivers licenseWOW you could have picked me up off of the floor. My response was " you are kidding right? and they said no, we are serious we don't recognize that form of I.D. we need to see something else.
135.00 bucks and a lot of wasted time for what ?
Just my two cents worth on the subject.
Over and out
I buddy from my ship was flying over to Angola to meet the ship, his passport had a small de-lamination spot on one of the corners, the TSA officer asked for another form of ID so he figured the TWIC card is issued by the TSA, they will appreciate this, so he showed them the TWIC, they responded the same way, "whats that" from the very government agency who issued the card didn't recognize it. Thats like walking in to the MVA and they dont recognize our driver license.
BUT all that being said, I have learned just this week, IF you think your TWIC is good for nothing read this, IF and only IF you have a valid TWIC card, you can do all your licensing, renewals, upgrades, ect. through the mail. You no longer have to go to an REC to be finger printed and drop off your application. 100% by the mail because the TWIC and the USCG REC linked up your finger prints and photo. This for me saves a trip to down town beautiful Baltimore to get my license done.

But I have used is a Bass pro and Home depot adn have recieved a 10% discount, helps with the 135.
bottom line is we should all send in the damn little cards and tell them to kiss our butts! stupid stuff ... always amazes me.
Mike it took me 5 weeks for mine and to make matters worse my ex-wife ws the one doing the screening and scheduling......how do you think that went. for the record I hold a security clearence and mil ID etc and i still had to wait. The only thing that made it worth it was I had to renew my ticket the next year so it was painless unlike before just a stamp and a few weeks and a new lic was at my door. Hell now you can email your forms and get your lic renewal.
