Here is a pic of my truck and the dealer put a warranty on a new transmission after mine went out. It depends alot on the dealer on how much of a pain they want to be. My dealer said the tires and lift shouldn't affect the warranty on my trans. If you have a programmer make sure you put it back to stock before you carry to get any major repair fixed. It will leave a code but it is the same code as a dead battery.

Will, quite being a pantywaste and do the chip, air filter, exhaust mods I told you about!!!

On second thought, that is a GM vehicle... better trade it on an F-250 before it croaks!!

[QUOTE=Regulator23;231000]Considering the massive amounts of fishing and diesel knowledge you guys have and the number of sweet rides sporting only the best SFC stickers, maybe you can help me with a truck question!

I have a 2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD Classic, 6.6L LMM Duramax, 3.73, Allison 1000 transmission. It came with stock 245/75/16R's tires which I replaced with 285/75/16R's last week. I'm no mechanic by any means and know little about trucks, so here's my dumb question.

I've heard rumors that the 285's void factory transmission warranties, and produce greater strain on the engine and transmission due to torque issues. Also, my speedometer is obviously off, and I should probably get it recalibrated. The dealer says he can recalibrate pretty well, but maybe not exactly due to the increased tire size. I think they're used to recalibrating with 265's. I also don't want to open up a can of worms with letting the dealer know I have 285's if it's going to screw with the warranty. Do I need to worry about damaging anything in the truck?

I'm considering the Superchip Flashpaq for the recalibration issues and for general performance. Are these worth the $$$?

Thanks so much for your help![/QUOT

Hey guys. This is my 1st or maybe my 2nd post, first off let me say this has to be the best fishing site hands down.
I have been doing more reading than posting but thats going to change.I have one question.I was reading a post and a member refered to an other member as a "Lunker".Just wondering.
Now as far as the factory voiding your warranty by just going up one or two tire sizes is just nuts.
I have a 2005 F-350 6.0 with the Edge Attitude power programer that came from the factory with 18'' rims and 275/65-R18 after the first year and 40K later I swapped them out for a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers 355/65-R18. Two months later tranny pops, back to the dealer new tranny no questions asked (I had removed the power programer).
Since then I have added the mbrp exhaust from the turbo back (no cat)and the K&N cold air induction kit.Six months later the fuel injection control moduel takes a dump, back to the dealer i went same story removed the programer only. They fixed the problem under warranty.
10 days later after the dealer replaced the (ficm) serviced my front and rear difs and tranny guess what? The tranny only has high gear.Same song and dance as before.I removed the programer only and they came and got the truck.they took the tranny appart a Ford rep came down and looked at it and the installed a new unit, new tranny cooler, new converter and added an in line filter.
Ford said they had seen this before. Now the Ford rep saw all the the after market parts and didn't question it.the dealer said they took pics like they normaly do.
What I forgot to mention was before the tranny let go I had put on a set of factory Ford 20'' rims which were taller than the Terra Grapplers.
If you read the fine print in your warranty they dont need much to give you a hard time. But if you take them to court they have to prove that the changes you made were the reason the part failed. From what I understand the only add on that they can void your warranty is if they find a power programer.
As far as if the power adders are worth it YES YES YES.You cant get more bang for your buck.Mustangs,Vetts,M3's,imports are all in for a rude awakening.Four wheel drive and 20lbs of boost from a dead stop there is not a sports car that will stay with you for the first 2 gears, and when they see that cloud of black smoke and a 7200lb truck 3 truck lengths in front of them they won't know if they should sh_t or go blind. The look on their face is priceless.
I wouldn't be too concerned with the tire issue when the truck is made to haul 25000lbs

    Good luck

    I'd get the chip!

The only thing I regret about my chip is I didn't buy it the same day I bought the truck. I have an 05 6.0 Ford diesel and it could hardly get out of it's own way. Then came the chip. Mine has four settings, stock, performance, tow and economy. Since I only tow from time to time I program my truck for economy and the mpg is 22.5 on the hwy at 1900 rpms. My dealer has reflashed me to stock once and they didn't give me a hard time about it. The Super Chip people have online updates from time to time to improve shifting, etc. Not only will you have the ability to program your truck for the job at hand, there is also a payback.
