    Trouble???

When the vote went down my own congressman went against a local crowd opposed 78% to 20% with 2% no comment. I laid into him hard about disredgarding his constituency and voting against what his own people want.
Today he sent me back a canned response and I lit off on him again assuring him he was going to wind up on the same unemployment line with others that are losing their jobs at small businesses who will lay them off to get under the cap.
His next response was that he didn't appreciate my comments and took them as a threat?
TV new was full of reports of congressmen feeling threatened after this vote sham from hell. Can I get in trouble for telling him I think his decision was out of line, he will receive no further support from this community and that he will not likely win re-election?

I wouldn't worry about it. If you did not say anything about bodily harm towards him he can't do a damn thing. If they come after you I'm sure a right handed attorney would love to take a case like that! Not to mention the press once something like that got out. Good for you for telling that A-hole what you think...

I don't think they can do much of anything as long as no threat (real or implied) was communicated. They may keep track of your IP address to see what sites you go to. What you are telling him is he has lost your vote. I'm quite sure that he has lost many others. The good thing is you got his attention and he is thinking.

Considering his job is to represent the voice of his constituents in Washington, he should assume that you weren't threatning him - you were promising him that someone else would be representing you...

Oh I was careful with language and implications not to cross any lines. I avoided swearing or even coarse insult. I simply stated that I found his disregard of the people who were polled heavily here in district 22 an abomination, that I felt that it was self indugent and anti everything this country has stood for over the last 234 years.
He had stumped through my neighbor hood and even at my door during the last election cycle. I was cordial as was he as he tried to present himself as a candidate worth chosing. In my original letter to him on this issue I let him know that in no uncertain terms that he will not receive any support from me and I will support fully who ever runs against him next.

In my rebuttal letter I again maintained a professional demeanor when I pointed out the number of jobs that will be lost and that he will likely join the same unemployment line as them come next election.

Unlike some careers you can threaten his job as much as you want.In some cases threating someones livelihood could lead to legal issues, but as an elected official thats fair game. As long as you dont threaten physical harm, you're fine.

    Post the Letters

It's hard to tell whether or not you crossed the line with what you said to the Congressman without seeing the actual letters. Why don't you just post them.

In my experience, communications from elected officials and their constituents are carefully guarded so as not to offend. Yet, in the instance of his second response to you he was decidedly not politically correct and accused you of threatening him. So, I'm inclined to believe there was, indeed, something in the second letter you wrote that threatend him.

So, we'd need to see the original, unaltered text of the two letters to decide. Are you honorable enough to post the unaltered text?
