    Trip from hell !!

Ok i posted in the other thread that we had a bad trip . Well here goes my personal worst trip . Other then the time i sunk but that just sucked ,

Sunday morning 9 am . start loading the boat and working on gear.
Friend had some plains for the day but was gonna try to make it to my house by 5 pm so we could head down and get to the canyons by 9 pm

4 Pm got gas and ice and loaded the bait . Tried to get sardines but my guy in somers point was out and i did not have time to run elsewhere .

5 pm no friend . call him he is having a bad day helping a buddy pull his boat out and he was gonna be late .

9 pm he makes it to my house in sewell nj. Left for the boat ramp , dumped the boat in the water and head over by my slip to get some peanut bunker/. Non to be found they left ! spent a hour looking in all the good spots and nothing

So no peanut bunker no sardines , we head to the spencer .
Nice ride out took it real slow because the coast guard kept reporting a telephone pole off atlantic city so i was in no rush .

Set up in the canyons and chunked till 7 am with no bite . The boats around me seemed to do well and all the fish were on sardines .

Started trolling around 7 am and could not raise a fish so we headed towards the wilmington . Picked up a couple fish and at 4 pm we worked a pot for some dolphin. Went into the cooler for a flat of butter and what did i find but a miss labeled box of butterfish. Son of a ***** i had a flat of sardines the whole time

Got some mahia and headed back in at 5 pm .
Now i have been working on this trip since 9 am the proir day im freakin whooped .
About 55 miles left to go and my starboard moter starts dropping rpms. THE Moter seemed to forget that it had 6 cylinders and ran 400 rpms slower then the other moter. No biggy im used to it with these moters . Got about 5 miles offshore and my port moter decides its gonna overheat and start rev'ing outta control . So i shut her down.

Running on the starboard moter that sounds like a train wreck i get us in the slip . at 7 30 pm .
We are tired as hell so i figure lets clean the boat tomorrow since it needs to be pulled out and sent to the dealer to get both moter worked on . So we went to clean the fish . I got all the fish cut up and working on the last fish i cut myself .
You know when you straighten out your finger you get the bulge of flesh on your finger knuckle ? Well i cut that chunk of skin clean off. I usually dont have any trouble with cuts and blood but seeing my chunk of skin laying there got me alittle sick to the stomach .
So my buddy finished baggin up all the fish while i rested in the truck . Im thinking it was around 10:30 when we hit the road for home. My friend drove and i fell asleep in the passenger seat . Well im not sure when but he woke me up and says do you want a taco ?
I said sure give me a hard shell beef taco !
Well the whole time im tring for the life of me to think where in the hell is a taco bell between longport and sewell nj. He then says " I figured i stop and get us some food before we run out of desiel . The little computer thing says we have 4 miles to empty !

Then i start to wake up and look around and say where the F are we . He had no clue said he got off the parkway for the last 4 exits looking for desiel . I said 4 exits there aint 4 exits from the boat slip to the exspessway . Turns out he never saw the exit and we were in LBI . We got back on the parkway and made it 19 miles at 40 mph to a desiel station . For some reason every place we found was closed .

We ended up making it to my house at 2 am

41 hours after i started to prepare for the trip i made it home .

Pulled the boat out today and should have a idea tomorrow on whats wrong with them . I cant win with these things i think ive brocken down 15 times offshore this year ! Im lucky this trip i got back quicker, most trips have takin 6 to 8 hours to run home on one good moter .

I truely think this was the most exhuasting trip i have ever had . I had alot worse things happin out there but this was the never ending day from hell in my book .

Any one else have some stories about there bad days at sea ? Please post them !

    john

WOW! You'll look back on days like that and laugh
The most important thing is that everyone makes it back safe. When you said "disaster" in your other post, I didn't know what to think!!
Ever think about unloading your motors for a couple yammies?

Damn John Talk about bad luck with the motors! Sorry to hear. I was on the phone with Ken when you ran in the inlet. He was fishing the jetty and said you were right there. He did mention that your boat sounded wounded to say the least. He asked me if you had engine troubles.

Well sorry, but hey your back safe and you put fish on the boat. Bad day at sea is better than a day at work!! I think

    Whatever
Man, and evinrudes used to be so great!

I've got a 1964 18 horse rude on my antique boat, (not used for fishing) and it's never been touched and it's still kickin a$$.

I bet it's because evinrude/johnson was bought out by bombardier, (sucky).

Now don't yell at me but my whole family has had nothing but trouble with the mercs, of any year, weather it be from the 50's or '04, there always breakin, not starting, and my half brothers and their dad have always had problems with yamahas, weather it be not starting, not running, EFI failing, ect, ect.

Their dad just went for a honda 150 4 stroke, and I personally think for the best motor, it's gonna be honda, or yamaha if they shape up a little.

Don't yell at me!!! Just my opinion.
