I met the man at the AC boat show a few years back. He is brash, bold, friendly (yes, friendly), opinionated, etc., but FAKE? No way.

Tred is a throwback for sure. Like him or not, he is one of a kind. I, for one, appreciate the way he "tells it likes he sees it".

    CT For The Record......

I am one of the VERY fortunate anlglers that is and will be part of the trip with Capt. Tred. Yes, the trip was planned for this fall 2005.....however, sh*t happens and things do not always come off as planned.

I received a personal e-mail from Capt. Tred regarding the trip just a few days ago. I, for one, accept the explanations given to me and understand that things don't always go your way......think about the BFT season this year in MHC..... all the boats are there....the anglers are there.....$$$$$ up the wazoo have been spent to catch 'em......guess no one told the BFT

My bottom line on Capt Tred Barta...... he's a self-made man that does it his way and really doesn't care what others think about it. Yes, there are other ways....but he is noted for "His" way and that's all that matters. Gotta respect that!

Showman???......absolutely... it takes some of that to do what he does. Like it or not, "he" gets paid lots of $$$$$ to do what "we" pay lots of $$$$$ to do.

Welcome aboard Capt Tred......looking forward to our trip in 2006 and it's an honor to do my small part to help out the NC Boys and Girls Club.

    Keep in touch!

Jesse heres an article for you to read and enjoy...TUNA DAYS by Capt. Tred Barta....A look into the 1981 logbook of a bigeye pioneer. May/June 2004---Big Game Fishing Journal. This will help clear any doubts about his fishing know how....Bigeye for one species and his contribution to our sport.

"(Editor's note:As always, we are in for a treat as Capt. Tred Barta relates from his log-book in early 1980 an epic trip to Atlantis and Hydrographer Canyon. Tred Barta has caught more bigeye tuna on rod and reel than any man alive, and in the year of this story, team MAKAIRA put 86 bigeyes in the boat with 50 of them weighing over 200 pounds dressed weight. In that year, the largest MAKAIRA caught was 337 pounds dressed with 5 fish weighing 305 to 325 pounds dressed. Capt. Tred Barta is responsible for developing many of the modern day canyon fishing techniques used today. Tred is also credited with early exploration of warm-core eddies, and more importantly how to Fish them.)"

"ABOUT THE AUTHOR--TRED BARTA is a force to be reckoned with in the bluewater fishing industry, like it or not. He has consistently followered his heart and defended his positions, as unpopular they may be at times. He has done more to get kids into hunting and fishing than anyone else in our sport, and his Barta Blue Marlin Classic at Walker's Cay, Bahamas, which is based on honor and conservation, to date have raised $775,000 for the IGFA Junior Anglers Program."

If you email me your address I will send you a copy of the article of his 1981 trip to the Canyons.

Marlin Magazine Jan 2006 just did an article on Tred and his tournament.Even though not every one likes him, you have to admit his childrens tournament is a great thing. I appreciate what he does
