    welcome Tred. . .

now, Jesse, to answer ur question. Do i think he is real or fake? short answer. . . real. long answer. . .still real.

Do i always agree with him?? nope. . .do i like some of the stuff he says. . . nope. do i agree with some stuff. . . yup. . . do i like some of the stuff he says. . . yup.

But for the most part, its the same with a lot of fishermen. the thing that sets tred apart in my opinion is his attitude. how he goes balls to the wall, i like that. would i go after 100lb bft on 20lb test? Sure i would. all the time??? no way.

I will find the issue, but you have to look at SWS mag and look at treds big eye log book from the 80s. I must re-read that article every month. LOVE IT. says a lot about what he does.

ohh, btw wahoo, the pic of him with TRED on the shirt is in that.

Well I never meet the man so I won't judge him. I think his fishing shows are great, hunting shows are interesting as well but I am not an big hunter so I don't watch all those shows. Enjoy reading his articles. In no way I think he is a fake. Hes the real deal and lives life to the fullest as everone should.

    Welcome aboard Capt. Tred

    Hey Jesse,

This is Captain Tred Barta. “Is Tred Barta real or fake”? I do not need to address that; that is up to all of you, but one thing is for sure, Jesse, you are not a fake. It was my intention to send you an email quite a while ago as your name has stood in my mind. At 16 years old, setting the state record for tarpon is quite a tremendous accomplishment and I am very proud of you. What a great start and what a great future you have!

To set the record straight, I never said anybody who uses Yozuri lures is an idiot as your posting insinuates. One, I never said it and two, it is not true. Yozuri makes great lures and I own quite a few of them. What I said on public record is that today in not only outdoor TV, but in general, people in the public eye are getting so oversponsored that the tail is wagging the dog.

There is nothing wrong with people making a living representing a company in sponsorship, but when one’s beliefs are totally controlled by so many sponsors, often the truth does not come out.

From your posting, Jesse, it sounds that you may not think too much of me. That is okay, but I certainly think a lot of you. I am what I am and make no excuses for it. I seek no endorsement from any man. No matter how fake you think I may be, I spend at least 50% of my private time helping the underprivileged and those in need.

You may judge me as you wish. Jesse, no matter how skilled you are and no matter how you judge me, at 16 years of age, let me give you some good advice: I have learned to never judge a man until I have shook his hand and looked him in the eyes. I am not necessarily referring to myself. Some of the greatest men of our sport have defended unpopular beliefs, have been labeled as this or that and have proven over time to be great men.

With that in mind, Jesse, I offer you publicly an invitation to join us at the Barta Boys and Girls Club Billfish Tournament, July 20 – 22, 2006, as my guest. Since the tournament is in Beaufort, North Carolina, it would be my privilege to introduce you from the podium. I want to do so not to acknowledge your state record, but to show the kids from the Boys and Girls Club of Coastal Carolina that to succeed in your dreams all it takes is effort, commitment and hope. You would be a great example for these kids.

The door is open for you to come and it is sincere. I look forward to meeting you in person and, at that time, you can make another posting; “Is Tred Barta real or fake”?

I write this with the best of intentions.

    Till next tide,
    Captain Tred Barta
    WOW!

I expected nothing less! I almost wish you hadn't replied yet Tred as it may look like now I'm blowing smoke up your ass! But in any case I'm a pretty good judge of charachter and I dont always need to shake a man's hand and look him in the eye to KNOW what he's all about!
I think the guys that are bitter (and I dont necesssarilly mean the guys here as it doesn't sound like they're really bitter -more like misinformed) are the ones that are being shown up (with their carbon arrows, scentlock clothes, bows that shoot 315 FPS, lit neon sights siting over a bait pile 20 feet in the air) by a guy who is just more connected to the earth than the rest of us! Face it Tred the guys that hate you wish they could be you and the guys who dont hate you try to emmulate you!

This about says it all. A man who knows who/what he is and is proud of it, no excuses. I'm diggin it Capt. Barta, there are few still around with the sack to make that statement.
Hope to meet you one day, and thanks for the book. It made the time I spent in Uzbekistan go by a little quicker. Made me wish I was on the water though instead of that third world dung heap.

    Well hello Tred!
When are you gonna go back and get another Albemarle so you can be like me? Bart Miller says "Hello to Colin Powell" . I read through the new posts here and saw some bashing over the scheduling thing. I'm on your side with that one... I had some people win sailfish trips with me at a school auction last year. I got most out ok and we did well. One however we have not been able to connect and get done. He gets rather beligerent and I have offered to pay his money back to him but he refuses. Like the old saying , no good deed goes unpunished...
Any way glad to have you aboard. I was supposed to leave for Jersey today for some hunting and maybe even some sea bassin out your way, but an ongoing arm infection sidetracked me with a trip to the doctor. I'll try again tomorrow. Give that boy of yours a big hello from all of us and tlet him know that there is a youth thread with a couple hot girls there.
