Hey Jesse,
This is Captain Tred Barta. “Is Tred Barta real or fake”? I do not need to address that; that is up to all of you, but one thing is for sure, Jesse, you are not a fake. It was my intention to send you an email quite a while ago as your name has stood in my mind. At 16 years old, setting the state record for tarpon is quite a tremendous accomplishment and I am very proud of you. What a great start and what a great future you have!
To set the record straight, I never said anybody who uses Yozuri lures is an idiot as your posting insinuates. One, I never said it and two, it is not true. Yozuri makes great lures and I own quite a few of them. What I said on public record is that today in not only outdoor TV, but in general, people in the public eye are getting so oversponsored that the tail is wagging the dog.
There is nothing wrong with people making a living representing a company in sponsorship, but when one’s beliefs are totally controlled by so many sponsors, often the truth does not come out.
From your posting, Jesse, it sounds that you may not think too much of me. That is okay, but I certainly think a lot of you. I am what I am and make no excuses for it. I seek no endorsement from any man. No matter how fake you think I may be, I spend at least 50% of my private time helping the underprivileged and those in need.
You may judge me as you wish. Jesse, no matter how skilled you are and no matter how you judge me, at 16 years of age, let me give you some good advice: I have learned to never judge a man until I have shook his hand and looked him in the eyes. I am not necessarily referring to myself. Some of the greatest men of our sport have defended unpopular beliefs, have been labeled as this or that and have proven over time to be great men.
With that in mind, Jesse, I offer you publicly an invitation to join us at the Barta Boys and Girls Club Billfish Tournament, July 20 – 22, 2006, as my guest. Since the tournament is in Beaufort, North Carolina, it would be my privilege to introduce you from the podium. I want to do so not to acknowledge your state record, but to show the kids from the Boys and Girls Club of Coastal Carolina that to succeed in your dreams all it takes is effort, commitment and hope. You would be a great example for these kids.
The door is open for you to come and it is sincere. I look forward to meeting you in person and, at that time, you can make another posting; “Is Tred Barta real or fake”?
I write this with the best of intentions.
Till next tide,
Captain Tred Barta
