    Trailer's in NC

    Squid,
Now I'm really confused. Just bought a truck to haul my 25' cc last week and bought the weighted tags (14000 lbs), although the DMV guy said I didn't need them. He said that if I used my truck to tow a recreational boat that it only counted for 500 lbs! I told him that I would be towing a 25 ft boat, he said it didn't matter. Sounds to me that I did the right thing in buying the tags. Your posting brought what we've been hearing of to light. I just went out and put a tape on my boat, 8.5ft for the trailer, 8.5ft for the stern, but 10 ft at the top of the bow roll, guess I'll have to leave it in the yard and plant flowers in it. I live in NC and have heard rumors about this but knew of any hard action on either side. This is all quite irritating, I went out and bought enough truck to safely tow and stop my boat, pay my share and then some in taxes, make sure my lights work on my trailer, keep good tires and bearings, abide by all speed limits, etc, etc, etc, get the point. Only to
find out I'm still a criminal. I'm not one of the "elite", I just want to fish for fishing sake. Let us know what you find out . Thank you for your efforts.

This issue is going to be addressed this May in the "short session" of congress. I have personally spoken to our representative Bonner Stiller on this, and he is taking action. There have been a LOT of other people contacting him as well so it's definitely on the top of the list. If you'd like to contact him as well, I'm sure he'd like to hear from you. The more people we can rally together on the deal, the better off we'll be.

You can pull your boat now with no problem---you just have to purchase the oversize permit (which costs $100) since your trailer/boat is wider than 8'6". I haven't heard many people getting pulled over recently but then again not many people are dragging their boats around right now either.

If you've got any questions, you can give me a call at 910-279-2912

Just remember the problem with the oversize permit is that you cannot tow on Sundays, 12 hours before or after a holiday, and you can only tow sunrise to sunset. Its kinda hard to leave the dock at 5am if you cant legally tow until 7.
